80-90 ain't nuttin.. it's when you start making 40 hour drives to go fetch goodies that you know you've gotten the bug!

Good point, considering this is a dry county and I have to drive 50 miles 1 way for a sixpac!

Well,
There's nothing to say you can't have both...in one package. Everlast inverter MIGS weld stick as well. Perfect solution.

Interesting I like the idea of an all in one unit, what's the cost for a PowerPro 226 and 205?

PowerPro 256 and PowerPro 205 are Tig/Stick/Plasma.
Power I MIG are MIG/Stick

As far as the 226 PowerPro, it has been deleted since it had some overlap in the market of the 205 and has been replaced with the 256.

Please confirm which you want (since this is a thread about MIG) and I will PM $$$ figures you so we don't interrupt the OP's thread further.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark, go for it. Corrupt away cause my post was kinda open, stick or mig, I have done and had tig, had plasma cutter and I'm open to learning more. I am new to this inverter thing. If I knew of them that may have been in the thread title too!

OK, question. When you have a machine can do stick and mig together is it the inverter qualities make them both work well? I am used to constant current or constant voltage machines. I have seen some guys with gas drive stick machines put a spool gun on there but it was a bit limited.

Is it the switching power supply? Please explain. I may go a multi machine if I understand one:confused2: Thanks, Shawn

Agree with soundguy 2 hr ride is nothing for a good deal. Soundguy do they really have rust in the sunny south? Thought here in Pa with the weather and LOTS of salt and salt solution now on the road we had the rust market cornered? One of these days I think my pile behind the shed will just desolve away.

Hermit,

In in an inverter, the power is "sliced" and "diced" electronically and though not all units have it, they can be made more easily to handle CC and CV. Transformers can be made to do both, but most pickup trucks don't have that much gvw to take one home.

I've had them both, many. Last was a Hobart Migman (think that was the model), 220vac, used shielded trigas and liked it. Had Miller ac/dc stick tig welder before, very nice. I seem to weld better with mig,,, but practice, dry and correct rod can change that.

My experience with the 110 migs like Millers smaller to 70 and 90 amp was they were a bit anemic on penetration even with proper ground bevels. Throw some 6011 on a stick job and dig in. The 140 Hobart handler does have nothing but good reviews though and twice a crickets juice.

Seems stick has a wider choice of rod vs wire. Buy a big spool of 70 series .030-.035 or several boxes of sticks.

While I would like another 220 mig, maybe the Hobart 187 it's a bit over budget.

Their ac/dc 220 stick is comparable price to the 140 handler in 110. Seems the stick could be the better value and versatility of the too?

Just average repairs, no production cept I have made several mortars and cannon out of half mobile home axles and could make a living off them! Just for kicks, one of them pictured. Fit a pop can full of sand perfect. 80 gr ffg is a good practice game using T&E to put it where you want, 240 gr ffg pute em in orbit.

Now that I ranted, can't make up my mind and on the edge of the fence, please give me some of your thoughts, experience, input. Thanks, Shawn

I use a Hobart LX AC/DC stick welder with good results.
My rods are 1/8" 7014, 7018 and 7024 all on DC+.
The 7014 and 7024 are drag rods, particularly easy to use if you follow the recommended amp settings, use forward-reverse rod motion, and take your time running the bead. IMO the biggest problem learning stick welding is learning to slow down while running the bead so you get good tie-in at the edges of the puddle. Watch the puddle, not the arc.

lotsa humidity here. thus we get rust on surfaces.. unlike salt rust wich happens from the ground up..

Can you send a PM with a price for both PowerPro 256 and PowerPro 205? Thanks
