Binding is when a door is not square or the frame is bowed and so it sticks which can be an indication of a sagging door that may put stress on a corner of the glass inserts. Glass has zero resistance to bending or twisting or edge compression. If a door sticks badly enough just trying to open or close it can twist the door enough it will break glass.

Now that's a thought. It is a little bit stiff to shut (the catch sticks out a bit too much I think) so you have to give it a bit of a shove to get it to close.

I'll mention this to the repair man.

Look very carefully at the radial pattern of the breakage. It's hard to tell from the photo, and even harder to see because it's tempered, but it's there... but it looks to me like the break originated about 6"-8" from the top on the right edge of the glass (right along or in the center munt of the door). Concentrate your inspection on this area.

Dude, Now that is sharp eyed, Here i did learn that we can enlarge the photos to full sized page.. The cracks all fan out , just like you described it??Could it have been a screw or nail, in the facing?

Yes, I noticed that there are some cracks on the top right that fan out, perhaps that was where it originated...

I haven't read each reply but I had the same thing happen years ago to a sliding glass door in an apartment. My wife woke me at about 2am because she heard something in the living room that sounded like a fire crackling. I was looking for a fire to put out. It was the tempered glass in the sliding door slowly shattering. Seemed like it took 15 minutes or so to fully break up top to bottom. The next day I found out what happened when I drove by the nearby car rental company and saw that a fellow had swept up a pile of glass that would fill 2-3 wheelbarrows. He said someone with a BB gun had shot out every piece of glass in every car on the lot.

I have seen this before and I suspect you may be another victim. A small hard object has struck the glass, possibly hours before and stressed it.
My conclusion is shown below in the pic. You can see where the stress occurred and all it takes is a temperature change to finish it off. I have circled the area I believe was struck. Stone, BB gun? Been mowing recently?

I had a rear wraparound glass from a 1955 Chevy p/u stored at a friends house, in his unused bedroom years ago. We were all sitting at the table in the dinning room when we heard a horrible noise. I went and opened the bedroom door, nobody there, but the glass was shattered. Always wondered why....

Further to my above posting, I wonder where this glass was made. In Australia Chinese glass top coffee tables were withdrawn from sale as they were exploding for no reason. Overtempered?
