Can cougars, panthers etc. cross breed with jaguars?

Just because there is no identified (black) sub species does not mean there have not been mutations that "could" explain some of the images and video of large black (or near black) cats where there are no jaguars.

Somewhere out there in the big cat gene pool there could be a chromosome that emerges every so often?

I asked the lady next door what she thought about cougars cross breeding. She said "well thank you" but didnt want to start now!

I do not know if they can or cannot cross breed, but since nobody seems to have ever seen one, or found a dead one, I do not think so. If you stuck one of each in a small pen, could it happen? Maybe, but it doesn't seem to happen out in the wild.

As for you statement that there are images and video of large black ( or near black) cats, can you provide any links?

I've searched for years, because this is an ongoing, never ending discussion, and never found a single one that was for real. Lots of house cats, and lots of jaguar pictures, but no black panthers. Ever.

Having camped all over the state of FL I have seen several panthers in the wild, never a black one but always heard stories of black ones being reported . You make a very good point of a lack of road kills considering a good number of "Florida panthers" are killed by vehicles every year... Like you say credible pictures or videos are as scarce as hens teeth and I've not viewed any worthy of citing...

On a side note...it would not surprise me considering modern genome and DNA technology that one is not produced in a lab somewhere before too long...in states where they are considered endangered there is likely a lot of both privately and publicly funded research...and I'm sure there are some that would figure a way to commercialize a black hybrid...

I have an old pair of blue Carhart bibs that I wear for yard work. l also have briar proof DANs bibs for hunting in the brush that have been really good.

The beauty of TBN's "rural living" neighborhood...a thread gets hi-jacked but usually comes back around and proceeds on the random course it was heading on. Blue Carhart bibs? I own the browns and a pair of the blacks and have a blue coat (acquired on my way to Canada when I realized I packed everything except for a coat)...never knew they made blue bibs.

Some of the explanations for the lack of a fossil record or skeletal evidence is absurd...unless one believes that much of the reported UFO activity is retrieving dead bigfoot bodies.

You are not supposed to know about the connection between UFOs and pallets! The UFO's leave the pallets in a random field. The living Big Foots place the dead Big Foot on said pallet which is later retrieved by a UFO. Shhhhh!!! Don't tell anyone.
