Where do old threads go to?

- I went to the search page.
- Put in the keyword "tires" (the search engine will not search for any word under 3 characters, like R1W)
- Put in user name "slowzuki"
- Find posts from "a year ago" + "and older"
- Search all forums
- Show results as Posts

Search now.

It was the first thing in the list.

Hmmm, so the links to these old posts are broken but they are burried in the database. Are you guys searching my post history? The text search has a hard time pulling them up.

And, to answer your question...

You are correct. The posts are still there, but some links were broken during changes a few years ago. There were also some posts that the conversion could not associate with a username, so it links to something like "do not delete" or something like that.

For the most part, everything appears to still be there, we just have to refine our searches a bit.

Why do they not turn up in an R1W search? And the links I had used in other threads over the years are broken? And Mchaulkney's links are all broken too I notice.

Ok I will go through and fix the threads links when I get a chance, I'm just surprised it broke all those internal links during the database conversion.

Ooooo. That's the hard way! I've found that keywords + a user name really help to narrow things down.

Also, if you look at bad links, there is usually a reference in the link to the forum that the post was made to. Most of those forums retained the same name after the conversion, so in your search, you can also select the forum to help narrow it down even more.

I didn't post the link I found since MrJimi already had. However, the way I found the post was;

1. Click on slowzuki's name
2. Select 'View Public Profile'
3. Select 'Find all threads started by slowzuki'
4. There are 37 of them.
5. It's the 6th one listed.
