Which one?

my first tractor was a 4010. good machine but the hydraulics were pathetic. my 2305 is much smaller but could run circles around that 4010. the 18hp wasn't enough to get any real work done, so I stepped up to a 4310. kept it for improvements, then sold it to a buddy, now I have a 2305. great little machine. hydraulics are MUCH better, engine is more powerful, and the loader can actually get something done.

It's a nice looking lawn mower. I can't get over the cost of that used. I know someone who just bought a Montana 4940 (49HP 4x4 with FEL) 2 rear remotes and shuttle shift and it was only $19275 brand new. I guess i'm used to having a tractor with a cheep poulan lawn mower for the yard. I dislike my poulan, but it was only $800 and i've had it for 10 years so I can't complain too much.

Will it do more work than a 4 year old boy, 2 cats and a dog? lol

For your money there are tractors out there that can be had for that money that will get some real work done. I would even consider a new import like a Foton or Jinma. I have a 28 HP Jinma with a loader. I bought it with a 5 foot 3 point finish mower new for under $10,000. Its a good tractor for the money and weighs nearly 5,200# with me on it. I have the rear tires loaded and this thing will pull. It can out pull a 4x4 truck. I also own a Ford 861 Powermaster that was built in the 60's. Its 48 Hp but will only pull 2/3 what the Jinma will.

I would keep looking for something more hefty. The tractors you are looking at would be fine for mowing but would have trouble moving any real snow and I believe would have trouble turning a decent sized snow blower. And as for the clearing of the land they would be just a luxury for dragging a cart around and pulling small logs. Also that belly mower would probably need to come off for the snow removal and land clearing which is a pain in the AZZZZZ.

I have the same size/type lot and situation - 3.5 ac, with about 1 ac cleared, and going for about .5 more. I have a BX24 and while it has its limits (capacity and ground clearance), I take it slow and am in no hurry. My first reaction to your post is go after the new JD SCUTs you mentioned in your second post

You haven't said how you plan to attack and use the extra .5 acre - just cut and skid trees? grass/garden/building? bring in and/or move dirt? Plan for the stumps? Need it done fast? Storage for tractor?

The SCUTs may be undersized, but it IS only 1/2 acre. Once you clear it you still have a reasonably sized machine for mowing and snow blowing (and storing) and a FEL for the odd utility work /landscaping. I personally could not live without the backhoe on mine, but YMMV.

My rational going with a new TLB was that I would have most (if not all) of what I need for the "projects" and still have a mower for life during and after the projects are done (yea...right). IMHO, I just see no long term advantage in either the B7800 or the 4010.

Just some thoughts,

I suggest a Kioti CK20. Way more capable than those subcuts, and a better fit size wise. A new one with loader and attachments should come in much less than the JD's you are looking at. Also a TYM T273: very nicely sized and equipped little tractor.

4010 is too small. The 7800 is priced way too high and if I were looking in that size, there are many good choices out there. I believe you can buy a new B3030 for less than what is wanted for that 7800. So, if that's where you are leaning, keep looking.

The B7800 is definitely "larger" than the CK20. But, the 7800 is not a subcut. So, I wasn't talking about it. The 7800 is more comparable to a CK30, and is therefore probably a little more capable than a CK20. But, that price is ridiculously high.

Thanks guys for all the advice, I priced a new Kubota b 3200 which replaces the 7800, and has more power 32hp, and I can get it for 17500. bare. the loader would be 4000 more, these are retail prices, and can be bargained. I also priced a bunch more k's while I was there, if you're curious I'll post em.;)

Oh and the only dealers within a reasonable distance from here are JD, K, MF,NH,CC,and Mccormick.
And as you can see the prices are decent.
