For clearing trees, best to use a chain saw and when you have cut down what you want down, go rent a stump grinder for a few days.

I had my previous CUT for 15 years, beat the carp out of it, and never had it to the dealer. I did have to break it down to replace a coupling for the front drive, though. I think the part cost $20. The advantage of having a dealer close is being able to gets parts easily and quickly if you need them. Hopefully they will still be in business when you need that part.

I wouldn't count on a FEL on a small tractor for breaking ground, if that's what you have in mind.

As other's have stated, if you intend to stomp through the woods go for high clearance.

The JD2305 has a design flaw with where the transaxle oil filter and hydro cooling fan are located. If you go that route and intend to drive it through the woods, install a skid plate on the rear.

What's the difference between a front and rear snowblower, besides the obvious.
and what are the major diffderences in mower decks. cutting, size, ease of installation etc..

MFWD is a fancy way of saying 4x4. Your neck will know the difference if you get a rear blower versus a front. Guess it depends how much snow you get/money you want to spend.

As for mowers they all do about the same in the finish mower category. Rear mount is not as maneuverable but cost less and will work on any tractor with 3 point and pto. Belly mower is more maneuverable but a pain to take on and off plus really lowers your ground clearance when doing other chores and left on. They are also tractor specific for the most part so you need a special one for your tractor.

Well I guess I've decided to get a subcompact, I have 4 brochures on the floor in front of me, and am comparing models. I haven't heard much about the Cub cadet sc2400, it looks nice, and the specs are good compared to others, does anyone have any experience with them. The local dealer has 3 of them in stock with loaders and mmm.
The other 3 brands and models are the Kubota BX2360, the JD 2305, and the Massey Fergusson GC2400.
I can get all of these locally which is important to me. and there are more than one dealer for some of them within 50 miles anyway.
It's very hard to make a decision based upon specs, since they all compare so closely.
I guess I want to base my decision on 1) reliability,2) Ease of operation,3) comfort,4) price, 5) parts availlability, 6) service, NOT neccesarily in that particular order.

God luck, and keep us posted.

Go sit on all of them and make them let you drive each. Go with the one that is most comfortable for you, has a good dealership, and good parts stock. Ask to see the service dept. Go back in the shop and look around, talk to them guys.

Get what you like. It seems like the ones you are looking at are very similar in performance. If its a few $$$ more so what. You would not buy and new car you don't like because its $800 less than the one you really want.

Last I heard, the Cub Cadet's were made by Yanmar. The same folks that made the JD 790 and 990 tractors for years and years. Very reliable.
