I thought i was looking for comments with the truck remark but to mention you ride a harley. Motorcycle riders are the worst about how much better/ worse etc one brand is over another.

Trucks.. hmmm Seeing how I work for Fo.Mo.Co. and tow heavy it's a no brainer.
Motorcycles, to say Harleys are built better than the rest would be narrow minded!
As far as I can tell same goes with most of the better built tractors.
And yes I think Branson is a very well built tractor at a very fair price.
I must confess, my life does revolve around my motorcycle, and my
Branson revolves around my property.
There's a lot of good tractors, motorcycles and a few good trucks,
sure is nice to have a clue with so many to choose from.

I agree that is funny. I bought my duramax to get the allison transmission. It is probably one of the most used truck automatics there is available and has a very good record for durability. I own an old kawasaki kz 1000 shaft that I like a lot but since my son bought a retired bmw 1100 police special my loyalties might change I really like driveing that bike.

JW,

Now that's funny!!!!!

Oh yeah, Jim's one funny guy, he oughta be on TV telling jokes ;)

Speaking of pulling in, our parking lot is off limits to a few other makes.
Yes there is a lot for the others, just have to walk a 1/2 mile further!
GM and Dodge do get to park with the big boy's though :)
This parking lot thing took effect about a year ago when the US auto market fell out.
At 13mpg and a 130 mile round trip to work the truck sits in the shop unless needed.
The Lincoln gets 27mpg on the hiway :)

A business that I do business here last fall bought two of them Chevy trucks with the Allison tranny. About 5k miles they each deleveloped a leak. He took both of them into the Chevy dealer he bought them from. After three days of not hearing anything he called the local dealer up and asked what the deal is. After some searching they finally told him that he had to come and get the trucks and deliver them to a place 100 miles away for service. Then when they came back one of the two was leaking more than when it left. All in all one truck was out of his fleet for two weeks and the other one was out almost a month. Personal opinion the selling Chevy dealer should have been responsible for getting them to the proper place. It probably comes down to more of a service issue but to hear two of them leaking oil makes you wonder.

Oh yeah, one other thing, when or if Ford closes it's plants like it is in some areas you can't complain like they are up in St Paul. I am sure a lot of the ones complaining were driving something other than Ford. Just my opinion.

I called lowes about 1 pm thursday ... I asked if I could have them thurs but would settle for early friday. They were at my house unloaded by 4 pm thursday. I can not get that service from HD or the other lowes actually

Uh. It's a fluke, dude. You can't get that kind of service from any big box on a consistant basis. Local companies? Sure, no problem. But big box stores suck. All you can get from them is a lower price (coupled with an inferior product). And, golly, isn't it strange how they all have these special exclusive models on lawn tractors. These exclusive models that are so cheaply and poorly made that they can't sell them through their regular channels, of course. And get service on those at a regular dealer? Yeah, right. Dream on.

Ah, shucks. And shucks again. Most folks only seem to care about price and maybe a little about service. Well, golly, what about the quality of the item purchased? Doesn't seem really high on anyone's list... Yeah. Green paint? Expensive? It seemed close enough (on orders of magnitude) to the others that I considered it for a purchase. But the dealer tried to steer me to a cheap tractor with plastic fenders. I mean, plastic fenders? Does anyone else make a UT, CUT or SCUT with plastic fenders? And how long do those last - no, really? I mean, today I did my 3rd and 4th hours on my tractor. Just clearing some brush out (with rake and FEL) I would have completely trashed plastic fenders. And it's not like I was doing anything crazy or wrong or bad. I mean, really...

And shucks a third time. You know... Yeah, well... Hmm. If you're happy with it then it's great regardless of color, darn it. And darn it again!

From the service standpoint, I've been singularly unimpressed with the Isuzu diesel with Allison's diminutive transmission. A good friend of mine owns two GM dealerships. He told me that I ought to hold off on buying one for a bit in his opinion. He's not real sure how long GM will buy their diesel engines from Isuzu. Let's face it, how many Isuzu vehicles do you see cruising down the road? And, I'm not talking about the few medium duty Isuzu trucks; their engines are not close to what's in the light duty pickups.

I believe the comparison to Harley Davidson is the most accurate. John Deere is the Harley Davidson of tractors. I think Deere is pretty conservative in its technology, but theyare serving a VERY conservative market. With margins as tight as they have been over many years, producers do not want unreliable technology. I think what made Deere really stand out, was that it emerged from the 80's farm crisis as a stand alone entity. The competition was disorganized. I think the New Holland / CNH or agco or what ever their name is has an outside chance of being competitive. But they have to show some stability. BTW - I see the dealer consolidation as intentional event. The model there is catapillar - 1 dealer per state, more or less. No dealer's cannballising each other's sales. My 2c.
