We may have gone off the deep end here.
If we're not careful there could be "thread lock" in the near future.

Back on topic, sort of: Green is more expensive because of the Christmas season!:D

Cool thread referral

What is funny about the cummins engine is that shortly after they started putting them in Dodge trucks ford bought cummins and then found out that they had to continue to supply them to dodge because of the contract. I dont know if ford still owns cummins or not I have not investigated it.
Ford has never owned Cummins, they purchased a 10% stake in the company in 1994 and sold it in 1997. See the following from FordCummins.com, a website for a company that does Cummins conversions to other makes:

Ford does not own any portion of Cummins Inc.. Currently, the Dodge/Cummins and the Ford/Navistar agreements are set for the next several years, and no announcements have been published that we are aware of, by either company, to change engine suppliers. We would not expect GM to use Cummins diesels in their pickups, since they are affiliated with Detroit Diesel, which is one of Cummins major competitors.

Ford does NOT own any portion of Cummins. In 1994, Ford purchased 10% share of Cummins stock and currently uses Cummins B5.9 and C8.3 engines in their F-series trucks, larger than F550. Ford uses the Navistar Power Stroke engine in their pickups, that are F550 or under.

However, as of January 1, 1997, Cummins purchased back all of the original shares from Ford, therefore Ford no longer has any direct financial connections with Cummins. However, Ford still purchases some Cummins engines and are considered a very good Cummins customer.

I seem to recall that the anouncement I heard was that ford had bought cummins. Obviously the announcement was highly exagerated. Thank you for correcting me on that. I did say however that i did not keep up with who owned what.

For the person that made comments about how great fords are check out this website. The Center for Auto Safety you have made me glad I did not buy a ford truck when I first started looking at them.

Go to their search engine, type in Ford, you get 304 results, type in General Motors and you get 364. I don't think either one is better than the other. If you were referring to my comments ealier I was only suggesting that a person should buy the product of the company they work for. And if they don't, then when that person's plant is closed down he has nothing to say.

I am not one to get into any brand wars especially on trucks, I own over 40 of them and not one of them is any better than the other as far as reliability.

There might be some conjecture to this issue on Ford Trucks? I find their greatest weakness are the frames, which flexes when loaded or unloaded. On one of my Ford's with an 8' bed that has a fiberglass shell; I have to re-adjust the shell about every six months no matter how hard it is fastenened down, because of frame flex! My F-350 dump truck bed follows the contours of the road! I also checked by looking at Dodge and Chev/GMC, and their frames are much stronger than Fords against flexing. GM builds a "box frame", and the Dodge was much stronger also. I have heard that Ford is/has gone to the much better box frame? I also have a Toyota and Nissan Trucks that have absolutely rigid frames that don't flex when fully loaded with the ladder design.

Thcri I am aware of probably what the duramax comments are. Evidently they had a batch of bad fuel injectors from bosche. The early duramax had a bad design in having the injectors under the valve covers if the injector leaks then you have a problem with filling your lubrication system with diesel fuel. That problem was resolved in the late 2004 model engines and I believe the warranty on duramax for the fuel injectors was extended to 200,000 miles and ten years or something like that. I personally like fords I have an older f350 that i use around the property when I have to go out somewhere that will scratch the paint. My remarks were not aimed at you. One of the posters on here has pretty well made personal attacks on my comments rather than offer their opinion.

I just wanted to say that I would love to have a Harley but I can`t afford the pick-up that you have to haul it with.

Harley Davidson = most motocycles sold in USA over 1Kcc, more yrs than not..... The only modern motorcycles to appreciate in value.
Ford F150 = most pickup trucks sold in USA, just about every yr for over 50 yrs....
Kubota = most SCUTS and CUTS sold in USA just about every yr they've been doing business in the USA.

One may argue that the above listed may not be the best in their class but then again, the numbers would seem to make an argument otherwise :D

obvioiusly dargo when I type out a response i need to consider that you might read it and are not capable of cognizant thought. The idea is that someone that makes heavy duty transmissions that are so widely used probably has the engineering skills to make good lighter duty transmissions. Also if you read the rest of my post before jumping on the bandwagon about me assuming they are the same transmission you will notice that I went on to mention that the same people that have the concrete pumping company also buy the gm truck with the allison transmission for all their service vehicles. even though they could pick what brand they wanted.

I'm sorry Pal, but when I "jump on the bandwagon" with all the other people who disagree with you and see that your thought process is flawed, you may want to think twice about making a personal attack against me in your first sentence. If you have difficulty understanding why personal attacks are not allowed on this site per the TOS, please PM the owners of this site and ask them. As far as I'm concerned it appears as if it's you against the world and you and, for some unknown reason, seem to want to blame me for your own personal short comings and for all others disagreeing with you. They disagree with you all on their own. I have no power of to sway their opinion of what you post at all; it's all you. I suggest you do PM the owners of this site and copy the first sentence of what I quoted you saying and ask if that type of conduct is permissible. Sometimes when you have an attitude problem and it seems that the whole world is against you, you may need to look in the mirror. You've crossed the line of thinly veiled personal attacks and have violated the terms of using this site. I suggest you enjoy the holidays and work on adjusting your attitude towards most everyone else on this site.

I don't think you understand what I was saying to you. Your the one that brought up Ford as being no good based on the link you pasted. I disagree with you, I did not mention Duramax in my comment at all. All I am saying to you is one is not better than the other. I know I own over 40 trucks.

You also touted the Allison transmission because it was the transmission used in the larger trucks. I am not knocking Allison transmission but it is not the same as the one is the larger trucks.

But my big point that yout totally missed was a person working for a certain manufacture should be buying products from the company they work for.
