Why SSQA?

Yup, you win. I didn't waste and time losing either. Spent last weekend cutting and splitting firewood and wishing I had a grapple handy. In fact, it will probably get more use than the loader bucket.

You guys got the bug in my ear, and about a week later, I threw in the towel.

I did ditch the idea of mowing my lawn with a belly mower on this rig. Actually, I had to convince my wife that wasn't going to fly. Having done that, I now have financial space to get a grapple.

That sounds like a win, win to me...

My DIYed SSQA actually came off a SS,,

Unlike others,,, I took the time to engage the latches!! - :laughing:

I used the original mounting holes to attach hooks.
With the "in close" location of the hooks,, the lifting power is phenomenal!!

Dang, that is one heavy duty looking adaptor...

This is the one that came on my compact tractor. (a factory option when I bought my 2001 DK 35 new)
Plenty strong enough across I added a hook in the middle to use it for lifting.

Like a lot of others I have read here; we keep the grapple on all the time unless we have a specific need for the bucket or forks (if I had enough tractor/loader to grab a round bale of hay and pick it up I wouldn't even need the forks lol).

You'll run across ways they are handy without even expecting it. I love having it when I'm bush hogging because if I run up on something in the way (tree limb, rocks, trash, etc) I just pick it up and keep mowing till I get to a place I can toss it on the trash or rock piles.

I've got plenty of grapple work to do. I suspect the grapple will be my.most used implement.

Pictures will come, I owe all of you that. However, he tractor will be here in 7 to 10 days, but the grapple will not arrive until early March. Meanwhile, tractor work awaits. Several years of firewood needs cutting, splitting, and hauling. 50 fence posts await frost thaw. Gravel work too. Then brush piling and, well, it never ends.

Proprietary in this context means non-universal. You can find attachments out there from other makers but you won't find those coupling devices on anything but Deere loaders. Any way you slice it, the market and supply for these attachments is a fraction of those made and sold for SSQA or euro couplers.

This and the fact that every single attachment I priced was more expensive with the JD only system is why even my JD has SSQA and I wont buy a tractor with anything else on it unless the cost of switching is taken out of the price.

My friend has complained several times that he cant borrow any of my attachments and he has to wait till he has the money to buy for his specific set up. Then it happened after he started buying JD only attachments he had problems with the tractor and after fighting with the dealers and JD to have it fixed he decided to sell his JD and go with Kioti because he had been so impressed with mine. He then complained that he had to sell all his JD only attachments and shop for SSQA for the Kioti.



For me it just doesn't make any sense to buy something so limited when the majority of the market uses the SSQA.

Yet I have had no problem finding attachments to fit my JDQA and the price is the same. Neither have my friends with CASE tractors found it difficult to purchase/acquire Euro Global QA attachments for his. And the CASE tractors are daily working tractors, not a small-property 'once a week' rig like mine. When I do work my tractor (especially during haying season = 8+hours for a week or more) the JDQA attached bale spears have never given me a problem, come loose or broken a pin. Solid attachment in my experience.

If the OP wants, he can get an SSQA adaptor to fit his JDQA for the odd speciality attachment he may want to rent (in his area).

Honestly though, just how many attachments does a person need for their FEL? A bucket (regular or 4in1), pallet forks or bale spikes (mine is a combination... swap the spikes for the forks) and perhaps a grapple.

I had BIG thoughts about all the QA implements I would get when I retro'ed my loader,,

So far,, in about a decade,,, I have the bucket and forks.
I built a set of rock tines,,,, but, my tractor is a little too heavy for 1.50" round tines 40" long,,,
anyone need some steel pretzels??
