Wider front tires M7040 Kubota

First post here. Thanks for all the info gentlemen! I just swapped my industrial R4 14.7-17.5l fronts and 16.9-24 rears over to 360/70r20 with new custom wheels and 16.9-30 rears with new center disc and wheel. Purchased at e.d.Miller Wauseon, OH. Mr. Ed is a pleasure to work with, he has done this several times. Tires are BKT Agri Max RT765 8ply 5500lb load capacity, much better than any R1 9.5-24. Cost mounted and ready to go on your tractor was $1843 for 2/fronts plus freight. I'll post pics once I get them mounted. Ratio works out to about a 2.2% lead on the front going straight. Hope this sums up all the necessary info for anyone thinking about doing this. I had to gather data from several posts to come to this point. Thanks to Kenbike, foremanEtexas, Ovrszd and others that contributed!

Can't wait to see the pictures. Any idea how much just the front 20" wheels were?

$360. Kubota dealer wants 382 for 9.5-24 stock rims as a point of reference.

How common is to get R1 radial tires in the US? What's the main reason for the diagonal R1, other than the cost?

We get them in every tractor from SCUT up to big AG tractors. Besides giving a very cool look to the tractors, they also provide better ride and traction with less compaction.

Radials are very common. Actually, might be more common than bias ply. Especially on AG tractors.

I have Radials on my M9540. I really like them. Better ride. Better traction.

Canada has been using R1W tires for a few years now. They are just beginning to show up in U.S. I replaced the 12.4Rx24 front tires with R1W tires last Summer. Gained 1.5" section width.

I don't recall a radial in that size. Even so, the gain would be so small as to not matter enough for a maker to want to produce one. As well, since that tire is not that high of a demand item, it's not likely you'll see one in the future.

You could go with a bigger front tire if you matched it to the correct bigger size rear but that may be to much tire for the tractor's HP to use and wounld't be a good idea. I think I have that 7x16 tire size on a Kubota and just live with it. On an M7040 Kubota that has a bigger odd size like this, I left the front bias tires on and just put radial rears on. This is no problem with smaller ag tires and JD has done it before on their 5000 series. That's where I got the idea.

Being that we drive the tractors a lot on the roads, these radials last longer and provide a better ride. Along with all the other advantages of radials, like better flotation, traction, better resistance to punctures, etc.

I put radials on all four wheels if I can get them but even rears only give a terrific increase in pulling power and reduction in compaction. It really is amazing.

I believe they are slowly getting more popular up there. However, these get expensive really fast but then again, will last longer.
