Winter Fuel

I'll bet in the vast majority of cases John will be right. Off road fuel is ALLOWED to be higher sulphur, but not required. Low sulphur can be used both on and off road and doing so creates one less product that the fuel distributors have to truck, store, and pump. Same thing applies to DIesel verses heating oil. It has to be easier to just blend one fuel that serves both purposes.

But, to find out for sure, just call your fuel supplier. Sure enough, mine confirmed that their off road diesel and #2 heating oil come from the same storage tank and are indeed the same, so I drew it from my heating oil tank until I got a separate 30 Gal drum and pump.

When it gets below freezing Billboe. I've had them gel at 25 degrees before.

When the temps start to creep in the mid 40's, I'd be prepared and have the fuel cut... if the temp drops suddenly overnight and it gels... it will take you a few hours to liquify the fuel and get going...

For an gel experiment, take a small clear jar of diesel fuel and put it outside for a few hours @ 30 degrees... you won't be able to tell the difference between gelled diesel fuel or vasoline.../w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif
