X758 Deck leveling problems solved

I still have my creaking issue when lifting and lower the deck, Mostly when lifting. Haven't found the right type of lubricant wd40 works short term, lithium grease spray works but not for long. I think deere should have put grease fittings on there.

I also never have enough time to take it all apart and clean and grease the bushing and shaft properly. I would guess a moly grease would work. Awfully dusty under there during the summer.

How hard is the spring to get off. thats my biggest concern.
I had, and still have, that same issue. I'm not sure what is causing it. I know it's been mentioned that is the rock shaft bushings. When I had mine out to replace the rock shaft, there was quite a bit of play in them around the outside where they contact the framerail. I'm not sure if that is standard or not. They didn't seem to have any serious or severe wear on them. The rock shaft was snug, so I rolled with it. I saw mention that it might also be the left side of the autoconnect rubbing on something. That thread is here:

on your old shaft, do the square drives seem to be indexed the same?

I see they changed the moon shaped clips and bolts that mate with the levers and realized I may be barking up the wrong tree with the bushings and creaking noise. I think I will try spraying the moon shape clips and levers

The square ends did appear to be indexed the same. Yes, they did change the pivot bushings and screws, but those changes were for newer serial numbered decks. Everything fit on my older deck, but I'm going to have to put the pivot bushing and original bolts back on because without them, I lost 3/4" of lift height with the new recessed bolt head.

I just went out and checked torque on the big bolts at the ends. They were tight. I will save this thread for the future.....

when I had my rockshaft replaced under warranty I told the service guy that one bolt was rh thread and one bolt was left hand thread and they still managed to snap the LH threaded side because they were turning it the wrong way to unbolt. rockshaft replacement solved my leveling issue but i`m still working on the creaking

I wonder why they thought a left hand bolt was needed being that the parts fit together on the square lug?

probably an engineer overthinking things. wasn't aware of the KISS principle. new parts are both RH thread which makes sense to keep things simple.

So you also go through the following steps in order ?

1. check tire pressures to be near 15# in fronts and 8# in rears.
2. raise all four deck wheels high as they can go.
3. park on flat surface.
4. set deck height (say 3" ).
5. check that mower blade tips meet at the same height to eliminate a bent blade.
6. measure, with gauge, at the tips of outside blades and adjust both sides to the 3" via hanger bolts #25
7. measure center blade in front and back position to adjust the front draft so the leading tip is 1/4" lower than trailing tip.
8. set desired mowing height on height control.
9. lower deck wheels to as near 1/2" from flat surface (not touching).

Should then be good to go (if I didn't miss anything.. ;) )

I looked in the TM today, and the tire pressure info is a bit more in depth than the manual in regard to specific tire ply. Thought I'd include it on this thread for future reference for anyone else trying to level their deck. Now that I think about it, there may be variance not listed for weight for anything attached to the rear of the machine via QuickConnect or 3PH, same for the front, and in my case, also with a cab on which adds a significant amount of weight. Anyway, here are the ranges:

Timbucktwo

Did you mean "front" instead of rear in your table?

4-ply tire pressure - Rear: 8-22 pounds
