How do u tell if governor ooened up? I did push the foot throttle down and if it wasnt bogged down much it would pick back up but the times i had to pull it out of gear the foot throttle made no difference thats why i hit it to neutral to let the engine pick back up

If your engine starts slowly pulling down and the load is not surmountable then you should be able to hear the engine gain speed because of the governor opening the fuel rack more. Very much like when you pushed the foot throttle and it picked back up. Sounds like you might be loading it more than it is able to muster.

Yea I agree it still won't burn fuel that is being delivered even if governed does not open. But still will be black or grey. I agree

Still should blow black or grey smoke under heavy or too much load. If engine is slowing that you need to go to neutral to catch up there should be black? Strange

Depends on overload. Continuous overload would normally produce continuous black smoke. Instantaneous but not continuous overload would only puff black smoke.

Don't worry about the smoke. If it's bogging down simply grab a lower gear.

Were not saying we want his tractor to smoke is more interesting why he is not smoking when he get under a heavy load? Its not a teir 4 tractor or anything so i am curious why a 35 year old tractor does not roll coal every now and then..i think winston is intriqued as well?

My tractor will have clear exhaust when normal bushogging. Go through a thick spot and it turns kind of grey is and puffs and if its a continuous spot will roll coal till i lift the mower, get into thinner grass or stop and grab a lower gear. Heck if i hit a pretty good sapling, say an inch in diameter it will puff and split second of smoke from that load.

But if it runs and has full power and throttles up and down i agree dont worry too much about smoke or lack there of!

It feels like it has full power and all seems operational but the only time i see black smoke is when i first fire it up it will puff a black ball then when i first throttle up it will puff greyish looking then just run and if it bogs it will just bog down. I will bush hog more this weekend and see if it blows black or stalls before i get a lower gear

Don't stress. Mine doesn't blow much either and it's been the same for 7 years only when you really load it up or it bogs down. And even then it's not much smoke.
