I intend to paint the hood and engine cover of my F17D, also a few touch ups elsewhere. Most of it doesn't need repainting, a good cut polish will suffice. I shall use car type paint, the acrylic enamel that uses a hardener.

My question is, is there a manufacturers code number that I can ask for that is a good match? It doesn't seem likely that I will be able to get Yanmar red as such, but quite likely that a particular red from a make and year of car would be correct.

As various members have repainted their tractors I am hoping that this is a frequently asked question.

Thanks for any advice here,

Geoff

Geoff,

I am not aware of the correct Yanmar factory paint code. It has been my experience that factory batch paints vary slightly anyway....plus air pressure, viscosity and catalyst further change the color.

A small (good clean) panel from your tractor can be color matched - electronically scanned at your automotive paint store, like DuPont or PPG. Almost always, the results are excellent. Good Luck.

I used Ford Ranger Red when I repainted mine, it wasn't that close, but since I did all the sheetmetal it didn't matter, and it'll be easy to buy touch up paint later. Another Yanny owner did his in massy red.........

There is no factory paint code for Yanmars, at least, available outside Japan; however, most guys remove the panel under the dash and take it to be scanned. It is usually like new, easily removed and easily scanned.

Thanks for the input guys,

Looks like the best thing to do is get a panel colour matched at a good pro store, then.

Cheers

The last time I checked you could still get Yanmar red from a supported Yanmar dealer witch in turn comes from Martin diesel who is Yanmars parts supply here in the good ol’ USA. But, you will pay through the nose for it……..

Whisky,

How did that paint work out for you? Any problems? How has it help up since you painted it? Just curious.

The paint is like a coat of armor, I'm am inpressed.

Had the rear wheels sunk up to the axels in mud a while back and thought for sure I would scuff up the white paint on the rims spinning the tires.......not a mark! A couple of light branches have rubbed down the side of the hood while hoggin'.....not a mark from that either.

Whipes down with water and shines like it was painted yesterday!!!!

I'm tossin' around painting my truck......maybe a little over my head.....still thinking about it.

I have been buying my Yanmar parts from www.hoyetractor.com since I got my ym1900 about a month ago. They sell "Yanmar Red" paint and claim that it is the exact match to factory colors. You might check with them.

Thanks,
Jeff

When I painted my YM186D I had taken a part down to the local auto paint store and had it matched and it came out to be Pepsi Red! Came out really really close!

Yes, use Massey red, But go to your True Value Hardware and ask for floor and porch paint, get it mixed to massey red...This is polyurethine and has the UV protection that you need to keep it from fading in direct sun...If you email me I'll get you the formila so your local True Value man can help you...NO SHORT CUTS...my17rf@hotmail.com Abe...Good Day...

Sorry to revive this old thread but I was wondering, Whiskey how close was the MF red to the original Yanmar colour? I need to repaint some of my machine and wondered if this is a good answer to the problem.

I think MF red was just a little lighter than Yanmar red and Case IH was a little darker red. Back in the old days (before we had the color matched paints) we would paint tractors with a 50/50 mix of the two. It came out close enough that you would never know the difference.

Thanks Aaron, I think I might revert to the old ways, much as I'd love to buy the right paint from you guys I don't think the international shipping would be justified!

Appreciate you taking the time to post. Thanks again. (y)

My Yanmar is a UTDA restore. With that said, the paint should be a match to the original Yanmar used. Recently, I had found that the Rustoleum Apple Red is a color match for the UTDA paint.

Now it is NOT the "Candy Apple Red", ONLY the Apple Red. I've found this at ACE Hardware and The Home Depot locally.

Walmart has a 6-pack too!
Apple Red, Rust-Oleum American Accents 2X Ultra Cover, Gloss Spray Paint, 6 Pack - Walmart.com

The M-F is a tad brighter. The NH red for round baler implements is very darn close. Ford red is just way to bright.

If you are going to use a paint gun instead of spray paint I would highly recommend adding some of the appropriate hardener to the mix as well.
