That 2000 is a great size for portable. I would love one but have the 3000iS for temp home power but it is heavy to haul. I can put it in the back of my pickup but I don't move it from there when going on the road. Unfortunately hard to justify another just because it is lighter.

Always tradeoffs..... A friend of mine has the same iS - easy enough with 2 people, but not anything you'd want to back pack anywhere.....

Their new 3k iK is quite a bit lighter, but you have to give up electric start, and some sound insulation. For my uses, I'd prefer your iS, but if I was moving it around a lot, that iK would start to look good.....

Our area has eperienced 3 major power outaged in the past 2 months. The longest lasted 5-7 days for alot of people. I sell and install generator systems, both whole house and portable systems. I am beat. Too Many calls over past 2 months. Working 12+ hour days 6 days a week. If finally telling everyone.,... No more installs until spring.

Enough is enough. Weve received about 24" of snowfall, and its cold out there. Lets install these when it warms up.

Im planning on swapping out my old onan manual gen to a 22 KW Generac whole house next year. I need to get power out to barn to protect heated waterers from freezing and my current system is not large enough. Ill move the old system out to my shop.

So far this year ive ordered my generator 3 times from generac, but ended up installing it at someone elses home instead. This is driving the wife nuts haha

Is it worth stocking a few in the shop?

Classic Shoe-Maker's Children scenario  ..... sounds like you are overdue for a vacation too - some beach time somewhere warm might be good alternative

Auto systems are popular here too, and we haven't even seen much for snow yet this year.

It's good to be busy, but too busy for too long gets old..... enjoy your time off over the holidays grs.

If we were having your outages... I would be all on it. I can deal with my mechanical interlock and electric switch start on my 3K but you are in 'prepper' territory with a 22k... and would be lovin' it'!

My son bought this unit on a clearance special for $299 plus tax yesterday . RIDGID 3,600-Watt 211cc Gasoline Powered Portable Generator with Subaru Engine-RD903600 - The Home Depot We took it home put oil and fuel in it , gave it one yank and it fired rite up . I think for a small unit to take camping and run power tools etc with it , it looks like a good deal . Only negative thing I can say so far about it is man o man is it loud .

Also fired up my John Deere AC-G8010S-E Large Frame Generator the other day . Ran/used a couple power tools with it . Only has close to 4 hrs on it now . Been real happy with this unit comes with 404 cc Subaru motor . Has E-start or recoil .

My last maintenance run was today when Hydro went out for 2.5 hours. Hydro goes out so often around here that maintenance runs are at least once a month for a minimum of 2 hours.

Nice deal, should be a help with outages.

My gens aren't as quiet as I'd prefer... on my project list is doing something about that..... the easy/low cost way to make power from a small engine usually results in loud...... so in a similar fashion, I too balanced performance level with budget.

I'd do the same with a whisper-quiet gen, but as I've helped out both my neighbours (good people) with standby power at different times, they don't have an issue with my present sound level....... often doesn't play well though in a camping environment, unless you are trackside, or at Glamis....

Did you remember to send Hydro a Christmas card, and say thanks for "helping" you out every month ? ;)

If I recall rightly, you maintain a healthy-sized cache of fuel due to the above issue....... I know my buddy over Bracebridge way often deals with very long outages, not a biggie for him on natgas though..... maintaining the elec lines in many northern areas is no small task, lots of geography to cover.

Enjoy the holidays all, and hopefully you don't get too many mandatory gen runs in 2016 !
