On Ram HD models you can get them with the hitch base components factory installed under the bed with 5 holes in the bed floor. You remove a plastic cover and the 5th wheel puck-compatible hitch drops right in. That way when you remove the hitch the bed floor is flat with no hitch frame obstructions. The 5th hole is for kingpin ball style. You have to buy the right style 5th wheel hitch, obviously, but it's a great system.

Here's an example hitch that works with the puck system:

I know someone with a 2014 F-350 and they have the puck system in their bed. They use it to tow a triple axle camper and it works well from what I understand.

Finally let my wife talk me into a newer truck. I've been a die-hard 7.3 diesel Superduty fan for years, and hated to give up on my 'main' truck being anything but that. But rust has destroyed much of my fleet, and based on good reports from friends who own and work (hard!) some of the newer 6.2l gas motor Superduty trucks, that's the direction we went. As of yesterday, we now have a 2016 F250 crew cab shortbed, 4x4, 6.2l gas motor, XL base model with only power windows/locks and cruise control added. Shows nearly 68k miles on the odometer, has some damage to the bed corners near the tail lights, but it will suit me fine.

I'm hoping my gooseneck hitch from my '99 F250 will fit and be swapped over.

Congratulations Greg. Moving along the timeline from a 7.3, that choice would be one of my top picks too.

Rgds, D.

Don't you dare call that sexy beast a pig! Lol. My former co-worker just picked one up, nearly identical except SRW instead of dually. That thing is a friggin semi-truck, basically. He's working on installing a front camera system so that he can park it more confidently, lol.... kinda hard to see over the hood.

It isn't far from a semi when properly optioned.
This girl has the towing safety group which gives me a total of 5 cameras (one front, one each side, one back of cab, one in tailgate), and the max tow package which ups the towing capacity to a whopping 35,400lbs.

I'd have to have a co-pilot along just to keep an eye on all the cameras/screens. :D

So does it require a CDL? Jon
