Yeah just saying that if you chose every little upgrade they could conceivably offer like special decals, brighter lights, two tone paint, paint chip protector, cooler, bla, bla, bla, your tractor would be 'cooler' but how much more effective for say 25% increase in base price.

I think alot of people take for granted the amount of thought and engineering when it comes to putting a quality product on the market. It would be easier if price wasn't an issue but it ones needs to find the sweet spot between design, durability, features and how much someone is willing to pay.

Yeah I should post a few pics but I am half way around the world in Singapore on business at the moment so I will try to remember when I return to snap a few and post.

Balancing price with actual product performance..... definitely a non-trivial task.

I'm not much for bling, but orange on orange would look cool.

Have a good flight back; wishing you a quiet cabin so you can catch some ZZZZ's.

I use zip ties to build pens out of cattle panels quickly, put up hog pens quickly, and string barbed wire fast. A good solid 250 sq. ft. pen can be put up in 2 hours. I use a tool that puts 75 ft. lbs. on the tie and cuts it off square at the locking block. The tool costs a whole $8.00. The thing is any company that doesn't use these tools is pretty cheap and it makes me wonder what they made cheap that I can't see.

Interesting comment. Years back I used the high end tie guns. Today I'd expect a Panduit or T&B gun to work well.

In the last 20 or so years, the quality of basic Chinese-made hand tools has come up. Perhaps we are at the point where even an $8 tie gun is reasonably well made. For a good sized repetitive task like your pens, $8 on a tool is a no-brainer.

Yes for the average Joe... $8 is a no brainer, but just to give you a little 'sticker shock', check out the prices of these professional cable tie installation tools. These are generally considered the best. Cable Tie Tension Tool | Cable Ties & Mounts | Categories

Thanks - didn't know the name... but unless I win a lottery.....

You know the customer base dragoneggs, and why they buy these high end tools. Things like tension repeatability and locking adjustments matter to mission critical applications (and sometimes even auto manufacturing), not so much when you are putting up snow fence, hog pens, or building parade floats ! :)

Yeah it's a shame Kubota doesn't appear to be able to afford one!

With close to 10,000 views of this thread in only 1 month , one of the 'bota owners here should forward this link to Kubota Corporate, Ag division.

If they are smart, they will pay attention.

I fully agree and that was my intention... To make them aware of bad quality...

I'll be sure to show them in person at the National Farm Machinery Show in Feb. $10 says the machines on their nice carpeted show area will have these lousy long cut zip ties on them too.

The ties on the Kioti are tight and clipped. Much better than the Kubota.

What's funny to me, is if you don't like the way the ties on the Kubota look and the fact they are white, it would only take about a dollar and about 5 minutes to get some black ones and install them nicely and clip them. I have a complete drawer filled with tye-wraps, mostly black ones, of different sizes and include the ones that have a hole to be able to use a screw to mount them on something. Most are Hellerman Tyton, but I do have some "cheap Chinese junk" ones too. There is a big difference in them.

Different expectations and obsessions.

Ex. - Olde Tyme farmers weren't too worried about paint - many of their tractors lived outside, and were beat on as a working tool.

Now some tractors get waxed frequently and the owners spend time/$ working on them the way some guys used to work on hot-rods. High end sound systems in tractors are not uncommon. This ain't GrandPa's tractor anymore !

As a maintenance supervisor at American Airlines once said "People see coffee stains on a passenger tray-table and assume we don't maintain our engines". The old perception-is-reality issue. There are valid points on both sides of that story.

For what people spend today to buy a New tractor, many of them expect perfection. I say they have a point. If you can (or have to) tolerate less-than perfect - buy Used, you'll save some money - that's what I did.

The Devil is In the Details..... for some people.... others don't care to pay any attention. I prefer quality UV stable ties, that's what I keep in stock and use often.

Myself - I have a real issue with how ties are trimmed. That comes from having torn up the back of my hands on cut ties while working in cramped areas more than once.

If I recall the OP's pic, I'd rather have ties trimmed long, than short-but-still-protruding. If you have that cut end protruding 1/8", it won't flex much at all, and will scrape/cut the **** out your skin with enough pressure. Left an inch long, a cut end readily flexes, and doesn't cause you as much skin damage.

I use a really good quality flush cutting plier to trim my ties perfectly flush with the head - no cut hands later.

Something like these:

5'' Lightweight Flush Cutter - D275-5 | Klein Tools

People reading this who don't spin wrenches may think I need my Meds changed. That might be true, but not based on the engineering points raised :D .
