12'h x 16' w Roll up door vs panel door

The wind probably isn't that bad here. It just seems bad at times when I'm trying to close and secure the lightweight sliding barn doors I have. It's a hassle to keep lugging the 4x6x16 into place every time I secure the doors for overnight.

12'h x 16' w Roll up door vs panel door

On my main barn I have the standard sliding doors but I'd like to upgrade to an electric roll up or panel type bay door and I've got a few questions. My opening is 12' h x 16' wide. 1) Is there much of a cost difference? 2) Will one hold up better to windy conditions? 3) What are the pros and...

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

I may just try the fronts only this year. My neighbor across the street has some chains he wants to see if they will fit so I'm waiting for that. He's a real good guy and I don't want to just run out and get chains after he was so kind to offer. I think the steering like you mention will be at...

    M7040 Cab full LED conversion

I only got around to one of them so far. These flasher assemblies are a pita. Right now I've been working on getting heat in my shop. As soon as I have it I'll get back to the flashers and see if it needs the resister.....and what resistor will work.

    M7040 Cab full LED conversion

The first night I took the tractor out I quickly realized the headlights are useless with a loader attached. That was a newb mistake on my part :) I only use the worklights at night. I also did not get interference on my radio when right next to the tractor.

    Log Splitter....had to pre-order for May 2022

I just ordered enough split wood to last me a good three years in my shop so I'll have time to do splitting a bit at a time throughout the year to start adding to the stacks. I may regret the cycle time down the road but I'll work with it.

    Log Splitter....had to pre-order for May 2022

What I have on my property shouldn't be too bad to split. I am closing in a few bays of the lean to of my barn for wood storage and will only be splitting adjacent to that area so a very short cord for me. I can see this wouldn't be the splitter for you.
  12. Rob41

    Log Splitter....had to pre-order for May 2022

I'll find out. The largest I'll be splitting from my property will be about 15-16" and not usually too tough. If it's too much for the 4-way I'll go back to the standard wedge.

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

I guess some tractors are easier to put chains on than others. I think the majority of M7040's came with R1 tires but mine has R4. That makes for more room in the wheel wells. I'm going to get a set but not till summer for next winter. I think my current set up is working just fine for my...

    Log Splitter....had to pre-order for May 2022

I got a wood stove for my barn/workshop and will likely put one in my house to cut down on winter heating too. I have plenty of free wood on my land so that's not an issue. I really don't want yet another engine to maintain so I decided to go with am electric log splitter. Most of what I've...

    Pole Chainsaws

I've been very impressed with my string trimmer. I figure I'd only get half way through my large yard but it does the whole thing on a single charge. Been great for several years now. The pole saw works equally well. Greenworks make solid products for sure.

Is a spike in tractor prices coming?

Right. I was quoted $36k for a cab tractor with frond snow plow last year. This year for the exact same setup it was just shy of $46k! I was actively seeking a tractor all year and noticed the prices on all the tractors have gone up quite a bit.

    The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

I think they call it and 8x8, but I kinda just see it as a 4 speed with high and low range. What is the appropriate way to refer to it? Last night I was in high range 1st gear but the snow wasn't deep or particularly wet. I'm sure I'll be making use of the low range before winter is over.

    Tractor Brands Market Share

Should I buy this 1949 Allis Chalmaers C?

I would not take my zero turn on my trails. Some are just fine but others have too many rocks. Not bad to drive a quad on or walk on but enough to really ding up blades. When I got my zero turn I relegated my 4 year old cub cadet riding mower to a kind of brush hog duty on the trails. A few...

I'd love to be able to have a second tractor to play with in the tighter spaces. I think I'd prefer it in the warmer months here in Northern Mi just being out in the open. The cold winters are going to make me appreciate a heated cab a whole lot though. I did get one tool yesterday that I'm...

Engine Oil change away from KUbota brand?

I've been working on diesel powered Navy ships for a few decades and the one constant regardless if it's a slow speed, medium speed or high speed diesel is frequent oil and filter changes are paramount to the health and longevity of the engine. We are required to perform oil analysis testing...

I hope whoever makes the Napa Gold filters now does a better job than the last manufacturer. Saw this video where they cut open a Kubota branded oil filter vs Napa Gold, Platinum and Silver filters.

What did you do to your tractor today?

Grooved rear tires Topped up gear oil in front axles/differential Installed PTO shaft for new snow blower Hooked up cab fan Got a set of handle type, Cat 2 top link and lifting arm pins

    The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

That looks cool but I just looked up "wireless back up camera" on Amazon and I can try one out for cheap. Many of them have thousands of happy users. Could be junk but it sure doesn't cost much to try. I wonder how well the cameras work while snow blowing, if they get covered in snow or not...

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

You're welcome. Getting good results is super easy. It is a little work to push the tool but not too bad. There are a buch of tire grooving thread but I figured I'd do one also because the largest tractors I found doing this were along the lines of a Kubota L series. At least now an M series is...

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

Me too. I figured it would make a good difference as there is no shortage of people who have found out first hand. Chains are always an option if it ends up that I think I need them. But if just the grooving is able to meet my needs it's a win.

    The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

I was going to install a rear view camera and might still. I just want to give it a go for a while without one and see how I feel. Might have a camera in my future.

Cab fan to keep fog away.....suction cup style!

So I got this 6" suction cup fan to keep my backglass fog free while doing snow removal. I thought I'd give it a shot instead of wiring up a traditional fan that would also require making holes in my cab. And it's brought to you by the good folks at HueLiv....just like grandpa had.....not, lol...

    The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

I got the cut PTO shaft back from the dealer today and got it installed. I then hooked up the quick connects for the rotator. Fired everything up and it all worked as it should. So far I am very pleased with my new M7040 and snow blower. The real test will be once we start getting covered in...

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

Got around to grooving the rear tires today. Did the same as the fronts but added a shorter additional groove as there is more meat to work with. It took a bit longer even though the working height was better. Getting to the inside bars was more difficult due to the proximity of the rear...

Double check this but I think the same bulbs will fit the L series too. Do you have a rubber boot behind your bulb assemblies? The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

Mine is only equipped with the hyd swivel. The dealer said I wouldn't need the chute adjustment. I'm sure I'll be fine this winter but even on a walk behind it was nice to adjust the chute angle. If I add one this summer I'll have to add a second set of remotes on the rear which I was planning...

    The M7040 got a 7' snow blower today :)

In a few days my fan will arrive. Before putting holes in anything I wanted to try a plastic suction cup fan that plugs into the lighter. If it doesn't work I'll get a more standard cab fan. I'll need to dig out my little pry-bar for the chute etc. I found by big one yesterday to move the blower...

Not at all. There is no paint. They are solid extruded material far more robust than any "slot wall" I've ever seen. If I slid attachments into one of the slots (and if the ceiling was higher) I could easily support my weight without anything breaking. Nothing wrong with using cheap slot panels...

Sounds like you made the right choice. I may even end up going that route if I find I need more traction. I'm just not in a hurry to do it. I don't have any vehicle trails going to and from any of my barns. If that changes, I might as well make the switch then.

Way out in lead, er, left field

I'm new to all this so take anything I have with a grain of salt :p The liquid weight in a tire at least below the level of the rim is about as low a center of gravity there is. Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

I don't know, I haven't read much about siping particularly on a heavier tractor. The only thing I read was speculation about also needing a fairly soft rubber compound for sipping to work and the R4's have pretty stout rubber.

    Kubota M7040 with grooved R4's

First off I have two disclaimers: 1. Only did the fronts so far.....will do the rears in a couple days. 2.
