Adding Power Beyond, 3-spool hydraulic valve, and T-n-T to a JD 2520

The pump on my JD 5103 is rated at 18.2 gpm and I ran 3/8" hose for the PB circuit, and all other hoses for that matter with no problems.

Looks very nice. Not read all of your thread but, what do you do when you have to put your BH on? Do you have to remove any of this gear?

thanks Kfbeal, the 2520 is like 10gpm with only about half for implements i believe. i think i will use 3/8 also, just didn't want to undersize. wanna get all my parts ordered so when the tractor shows up i can tear into it right away!!

jimgerken, I just recently ordered a 2520, am planning on adding valves like you did, copying your idea of making your own power beyond!! Should save me a ton( i think they get around $300 for the kit!! I am wondering what size hydraulic lines you ran from the block to the add-on valve, it looks like 3/8 in your pics but was just wondering if that was big enough, since it always has flow through it. i know the ports are #6 which is not real large just wondering your thoughts on this, since i haven't actually looked at my tractor yet!!

will post more on that later, and pics of the new valve installed as well!

3/8" hose will fine, that what I used on my 4110 with the same specs as the 2520.

Oh, and Welcome to TBN:D

Hanson1999: I agree, use the 3/8". I used 1/4" and have always felt I should replace those two hoses with 3/8". Will do it someday. I am guessing I am generating a bit of extra heat in this region from flow resistance, and slowing my total flow slightly.

Airic's backhoe question... I plug in the backhoe like any other single hydraulic cylinder would plug in, with the quick-connects. Then I pull the corresponding lever and hold it up with a bungee cord to the ROPS. Not elegant, but works just fine and eliminates the need for yet two more couplers on an already-too-crowded tractor. As far as physical interferance, I had to raise the backhoe operator seat about five inches with an additional bracket, so the seat sets above the 3-spool valve. I am six feet tall, and the seat fit is fine, and reaching the backhoe levers is fine too. Still good clearance between my head the ROPS too.

Does the backhoe require power beyond? If so, you loop that through the backhoe with quick connects also? I have no idea how backhoe's connect is why I ask the stupid question.

So that's constantly feeding the backhoe that has it's own controls and returns through the return line?

Yes, the BH requires a IN and OUT to function.

KFbeal: The backhoe has its own controls. They require fluid flowing in and back out. So in my case, instead of adding two more couplers and having a loop hose like John Deere does it, I simply plug the two backhoe hoses into my Prince valve, and pull the lever. Fluid flows continuously out to the backhoe valve set, thru it, and back to the Prince valve. It works just fine this way.

Gotcha, that's how we used to use the add-on front-end loaders in the past by bungee cording the valve on the tractor. I've been trying to figure out how the backhoes hook up and normally see PB mentioned is why I asked.

Sounds like a quick and easy way to accomplish it.

hey guys i have a question....i installed a open center valve like jimgerken did, following his instructions, everything was good until i went to put a box scraper on....the three point would not lift it.....so i bypassed the new valve just like what you would do with a factory power beyond when hooking them to themselves, and three point works normal. some how the valve i installed is giving the three point only enough power to lift itself....

any ideas???
