What to do with Bad Gas?

No places I've ever been to in CA and CO will let you put fuel (gasoline) into their waste oil tanks.

I was a little surprised too. But it all went in the pot with no comment. Cool.

The company that collects their waste oil would be really unhappy if they knew about it. The waste oil shouldn't contain anything but oil. No gasoline, diesel, brake fluid, or antifreeze.

Geez, your full of great info, Cyril.
Where were you when I started this thread?

This stuff wouldn't have worked for the Vette though, says for small engines.

Another question.........When premium gas goes bad, is it worse that bad regular gas?

Mark

In ethonol fuels it is way worse as the water bonds with gas and settles to the bottom of the tank and creates low octane mix.

They might have though it was all old oil? Old oil in a worn engine can smell a lot like fuel.

I always have mixed antifreeze in with the oil this happens all the time when you do head jobs in the shop. It all goes into the oil container. I now save old antifreeze for tractor tires. I always put brake fluid in as well its an oil. I also put hydraulic fluid in and gear oils and all other petro based fluids.

I used to work in the haz waste business. People mix that stuff all the time. As I said above the recyclers don't want it mixed. It's a big pain in the butt to separate it out an clean up the oil. If the contamination is bad enough the recycler has to pay to get rid of it. If you want to do the right thing then put only oil in the used oil tank. Most places have a antifreeze tank as well. Brake fluid, gas, and diesel should go to a household haz waste collection location.

I have seen used gas tanks at our recyle/dump locations here in SC but i have never seen an antifreeze tank? Also i dont think i can throw a can of gas into the dumpster at my local household collection center (if we did not have the old gas collection tank that is)

I had a boat with about 150 gallons in the bilge of a pleasure boat. We got called (I'm a firefighter) to a lake where the boat owner walked away from his boat while refueling, but did not know that the filler tube was rotted off, so the fuel went into the boat itself. The fool wanted to siphon it back into 5 gallon cans, put it in the bed of his pickup and drive home and strain it later. You can guess what we said about that!

He had to call a commercial company that handles hazardous waste spills like this. The crew that came out said that products like this to recyclers that blend it with marine diesel fuel, old paint thinner, some paints, etc and it gets used in the large marine cargo vessels after they have exited US territorial waters (12 miles?? off shore).

The guy got quite a bill for the disposal, had to pay the marina for the fuel and his boat was a mess. All over a $10 piece of rubber hose that rotted off.

Well, I've been mixing this old fuel in with new fuel a little at a time in my lawn tractor and it seems to be running fine. It will likely take me a while to use it up, but thats O.K..

I am draining bad fuel out of my boat. I picked up two 55-gallon plastic drums from the local car wash. They had 都imonize in them. They are white not blue. Is there a way to make sure they will hold fuel/gas?
