True, when my deere mower went swimming in the pond still running she blew both head caskets. New head caskets and a good flushing and she is still mowing. First time I have ever washed a lawnmower.

Got her up and going again yesterday for a couple of hours. More running time, operating through all gears, etc.

She sounded great. Although, she's only got 30-40 hrs total since a complete engine overhaul, new clutch, and new PTO a few years ago. Once done, I let her sit a bit and checked over the fluids again. Engine oil is looking great.....still no hint of any water ever being there. Tranny fluid started to show a bit of an off-colored, not-quite-so-clear tint so I'll be changing that again this coming weekend when I get back to her.

Otherwise, greased everything and sprayed a little lubricating oil here-and-there on various bits and pieces. Battery is getting weak but don't know whether the water had anything to do with that or not since it wasn't doing just exactly great beforehand. Other electrical parts still ticking like a clock.

I bought the little thing several years ago on the cheap as a bit of a project with every intention of keeping it for the long term. Now, after two floods (one near fatal), and living on.....I really can't see myself ever parting with it. Really developing some history here.

With the amount of water we had running through here, there was a fair bit of erosion and movement. Looks like I'll be hanging the box blade on her and doing a little reclamation as time permits before too long.

Sounds great! I understand the emotional attachment that you're getting with her.

Even though the oil looks good on the stick, it has additives to absorb moisture. These additives could be quickly used up in your situation. Don't press your luck with this. Don't run it very long before doing a hot, thorough oil drain.

You really did good jumping on this right away.

before you drain the hydro oil, dump in a couple pints of 90% rubbing alcohol from the drug store.. run her and bring her up to temp... will get more hidden moisture out this way..

Glad you got it running the sooner the better with water especially the cylinders!

I know absolutely nothing about old ford tractors but if it happens to have a zerk on the throw out bearing dont forget to give it plenty.

One more thing is I have heard of pressure plates sticking to discs by rusting so maybe put a stick to hold your clutch down to air out for a week or so when not using it?
