If I was plowing commercially then I would agree but since its only going to be for maybe 5 houses every snow fall and the occasional job site where we are working the 250 would be fine. Were in an area that is basically protected from the severe snows and only get a couple real heavy snows each year and the rest is just light snows of a couple inches.

F-350 SRW is the best keep secret out there. You can go from 10,000# GVWR to 11,500# GVWR for only $600. That is pennies when you are talking about a $40,000 truck. You get more payload, larger wheels for more ground clearance, and the ability to handle more pin/tongue weight. I can not tell you how many times I see people putting larger springs or air bags trying to make a 3/4 ton into a 1 ton.

My :2cents:

We have never exceeded the capacity of the 250 and I don't see things changing much. I will inquire about it though when I sit down with the dealer in the future.

Not as bad as trying to make a 3/4 ton out of a 1/2 ton.

I agree that on the surface, there is so little difference between the two that why not go with a 1 ton. However in some locales, the 3/4 ton keeps the vehicle within what is classed as a "light duty" truck. Can make a difference when licensing, insuring, getting a tow, emissions testing, etc.

Air bags serve a purpose other than trying to "make a 1 ton" out of a 3/4 ton, which isn't the real reason. Air bags improve ride and act as load-levelling devices to keep the truck from squatting when carrying a heavy load. A 1 ton would just as likely require them under similar circumstances.

Quite honestly, I don't know why people order a three quarter ton truck over a one ton. By the time you add the extra weight, the payload often equals a half ton.

speaking of 3/4 out of a half ton. I head a buddy mention a hd half ton he had.. had the axles of like a 3/4 ton.. ie.. more bolts.

is this a commonly available option to get on a half ton truck?

They made a heavy half option. I had one on a F-150. It was a 7,700# GVWR. GM also made a 1500HD.

Do some checking on this but Dodge had 8 bolt wheels on their half ton Ram Mega Cab truck a few years back.
I want to know if I'm right or wrong on this:confused:

Correct, RAM 1500 Mega Cab's had the 2500 suspension/drivetrain. Now the Mega Cab is only a 2500 option and the 1500 has a full size Crew Cab.

Your powers of deduction are amazing...
