Do your own Fluids and Filters on a BX

If not for JT's BUMP of this tread several weeks ago I would be shelling out $400 to the dealer for a 50 hr service. Bumping constantly to get an answer or sell your wares is bad carma; an occassional bump of a useful thread is right by me.

Thanks JT

Thanks. I was not trying to offend anyone by the bump, was just trying to be helpful.
I don't get paid any money or rewards by bumping so I was surprised that anyone would take offense.
I didn't know bumping was even frowned upon by anyone during the years I've been on this forum. Never had been reprimanded or sent any extracts from dictionaries explaining how bad a bumper is before.
I apologize to the person I offended by bumping this thread but I'm not sorry I did it.:)
I suspect I will keep bumping till the moderator tells me to stop, I mean the real moderator, not the wanna be's or self appointed moderators.

John, the search function on here is a very useful tool, but when I was a new member not all that long ago, I was not familiar with it and I doubt that I am unique.

In looking at present and past threads there is quite a turnover with lots of new members, many of whom own a BX or may be thinking of buying one.

My brain is not as sharp as it once was and I think most of us appreciate someone keeping track of and bumping that thread from time to time.

Thanks. I know some times I didn't know what I didn't know to do a search. I think when people see how easy it is to do the service on a BX that they will see that it is as easy or easier to do it on the bigger tractors or in my opinion it is easier on the bigger tractors since they are higher off the ground. The getting down and up is the hardest part of doing the service for me. The draining fluids, removing and reinstalling filters and fluids is simple on all of them.
I've learned far more about tractors by reading current postings than I've ever learned by searching for a specific problem I have. I often read a thread that I don't think has any thing to do with me or my tractors and then see an idea that I had never considered so I would have never done a search on it.
I appreciate new owners asking questions which help other new owners to find answers and also more mature owners to update their "data" base.:)
Some times I see where someone will tell the poster with a question that they should have done a search. I don't care much for that response myself, just one mans opinion. Now to give an answer and mention a further search can be done to maybe find out more info, to me, is a good response. Again, just my feelings/opinion about it.
To me this is the best tractor forum on the internet. I frequented another tractor forum for a few years before coming over here. I rarely go back to the other one. I hink there are a lot of good apples on TBN.:)

Couldn't agree more, I would much rather do the service on our L5030 than the BX as I am seriously gravitationally challenged.

I too have learned a lot from other posters that has steered me to or away from a particular model or implement, great source of information here. It seems though the more I learn the more I realize how much I don't know.

OK, gotta ask where I can get synthetic 75-90w gear oil for the same price as regular dino gear oil? I did some on-line price shopping and see the synthetic runs about $10-$15 per quart, while the dino is $3-$5 per quart. I've been looking on line since I couldn't find the synthetic locally when I changed the front axle oil on my BX1860. If I can find the synthetic for a reasonable price, I'd like to go that route for the front axle when my 50 hour service is due.

Chris, at our local Family Farm and Home chain stores (think TSC type store) they have both, side by side, same price. I did notice that WalMart, which sells the same (Warren Oil) charges a tad more for synthetic. We have a local Auto, Auto Something? (the mind is horrible thing to waste) also sells both. Same price, $5 comes to mind.

I checked the level on my BX1860 at 5 hours and it was not on the stick. I added Mystik JT5, which is listed as Kubota SUDT compatible. I am looking to change out the hydraulics when i pull the suction strainer and the filter at 50 hours. My biggest question is what Synthetic 10W30 i will put in the engine. I have found synthetic Roella at WalMart, and since there is no particulate filter on these tractors YET, I may run it in my BX1860.

Thanks BP. No Family Farm and Home stores around here. TSC is about 45 minutes away, so I only go there when I'm in the area which won't be for a while, but, that's where I bought the dino gear oil for my BX1860 and I didn't recall seeing synthetic but I could have missed it. Also, I see posts about Walmart carrying a lot of synthetic engine oil for diesels but have had no luck finding it in my local Walmarts here. I will check them all again, including local auto parts stores when the time comes. I'm sure I'll find it locally, but I'm not hopeful I'll see a price of $5/qt around here. If anyone has an on-line source for a reasonable price, please post a link.

Advance Auto Parts sells Mobil 1 for $10.89 Not bad, but still too high for my taste. Warren Oil re-packages for lots of labels and it can be found for far less than that. Valvoline is also popular with retailers, but not much cheaper than Mobil.

BTW, weird your WalMart doesn't Rotella synthetic for diesels. Is this a Conn thing?
