Have to agree with Redbug. People that own or like tractors usually have an interest in the unique aspects of rural life. They tend to be more practical... Doing repairs and other things for themselves... More interested in how things work than simply using them. That's refreshing.

I'm a relative newbie on TBN, but I have already gotten some really good advice on buying a new tractor, on implements, and on repairs. It isn't so much that it tells me details as it tells me where to look for issues and resolutions. As with all things Internet, you learn your sources, learn who to trust, make sure the info is logical, and check it out. That said, facts and specific advice on TBN has a pretty high validity. Opinions about tractor color, politics and the like are just that... Opinion.

I enjoy TBN and intend to keep reading... And sometimes posting.

For me, any member here who doesn't provide their real name or hides behind a false alias is usually dismissed straight out as a troll, fake or flake. More so if they hide behind a facade of where they live, ie: "anywhere and everywhere" or those who claim to have "any number of tractors", etc. Those here who put an honest name and their own face and location on TBN will have more credibility to me than a hundred trolls or fakes combined. Too bad TBN does NOT require something like Facebook registration to qualify for membership here.
Alias's are not bad. They often reflect what the person wants to be.

I do wish more people would post their locality at least somewhat so they don't get advice on buying a snowplow if they live in Florida.

But to answer the Q -

When they support only 1 "brand" and flame everyone else that has something different. Whether it is chainsaws, trucks, or politicians.

When they don't provide links to their sources of information

Worse, when they provide links and up on investigation the link ends up being some blog with an ax to grind.

When they make blanket statements of what the case is in a national or worldwide sense when it is actually only found in their local area.
Example "Most consumer available diesel now has 5% bio or more for a little added lubricant over the original ULSD. " which is true in the posters local area but not thruout the US or world.

Many of us have no first hand experience with things we comment on, but have "read it somewhere".

Trust but verify.

/edit

OH, another thing that drives me nuts is (and mostly newbies do it) but it is reviving an 8 year old thread and offering advise.:confused2: I dont mind so much when someone revives a old thread to ask "how did it turn out", or "did you ever get it fixed", but dont revive one to ask a new qestion.
I disagree with the "but dont revive one to ask a new qestion (spic)." Very often old threads contain more information than the common short ones. How many PHD threads are ther in Attachments? The problem I often see with the newbies "revival" is that they did a search on the subject (good) but didn't notice it's last post was in the last century.

The ones who insist on knowing your full name and home address....How in the world can anyone prove they are actually posting their real name and actual home address ? I guess scan and post a birth certificate and property tax bill would be the only way...

How do you know who may be on this site that may have ulterior motives....? You don't and in this cyber world it is not a good idea to have your name and address and other information floating around in cyber space....you never know who is collecting that information ...For instance, think about tractor or equipment thieves...say they get on this board as a new member ...They can look at what equipment you have, your real name and real address and bingo...You just gave them a list to go by when they burglarize you....

I am not saying just TBN but any web sites....I advise everyone to use caution in what personal information you freely divulge...Just my humble opinion.

Most TBN members don't use Facebook. We did some test campaigns to promote our FB page and almost nobody "liked" it.

I am on FB quite a bit and I didnt realize there was a TBN page.. LOL

I just liked it..

At one point I had my full name and all my personal information, but have taken it off; value my posts or not; I judge by the quality of the response, put a high priority on civility, ignore the bashers. I also really like a good sense of humor.

I accept everyone in good faith until proven otherwise.

I have often described myself as an "acquired taste", so don't take anything I say too seriously; you have been warned.:)

TripleR --- If you notice you, Bird and Me...all former LEOs...I know there are more but I can't remember all of them...but at least the 3 of us do not give all of our personal info....we disclose part..enough so folks know generally where we are and our equipment but no so much as to compromise our security...I think everyone should google their aliases or real names, whatever they use on various blogs or web sites they visit and they may be shocked to find all the information out there about them for anyone, even the bad guys to see...

DMCarty is a former LEO too; forget the others, but there are several.

When I was working, by law my information was unavailable even to other Law Enforcement Agencies. If someone ran a 28/29, the response would come back "not on record", so we had to be sure to have all information handy. We became aware of Zabasearch and had to submit requests to have our names removed. It is scary how much information is available out there.

I admit that I have gotten a bit careless since my retirement and need to do some rethinking.
