L3240 vs L3540 vs L3940

Nobody ever thought they got too much power in their tractor. Ibought used and so you compromise ... The 3130 was the smallest engine, and I really wish it was 2-3 steps higher. My $0.02...

My 3240 does the job, but a little more HP would be nice. BTW I'm at 3000 ft.

It would be nice if you could get a 4240 because of the better loader. I initially was going to get a 3540 and went to 3940 because of the 4 cylinder once I went that far I went to the 4240 because of the 854 loader. Have you checked at few dealers for price? When I was looking at tractors I found a wide range of prices.

does the L3800 have the same options as the L3940?

It is the options that our 3940 has with the extra size that interests me

The l3800 does not have HST+ and auto throttle adavance. The Grand L is a more deluxe tractor. The Grand L can have the 724 or 854 loader, the only loader you can get on a L3800 is a 514 which will not lift as much. Have you thought about a L4600 or MX5100?

Those are both more tractor for the money but less options, for sure........but no paddle shifter. :cool2:

I do really like that dual speed Hydro, it is worth every penny.

The 3940 we have at work does not have paddle shifter?? unless i do not know how to use it.

I have checked around on prices, Barlows in Somerset Ky about 2 hours away beats them all. I even took the prices and spec to a large JD dealer and told them I would buy green if they would match price and finance options. He said no way so I walked out.

I really really need to find someone who has all three sizes in stock, b3200, l3540, l3940. I am very curious how much differance there is in the mid size 3540, it has slightly smaller tire options then 3940.

But I could use more ground clearance as I have had the B3200 high centered a few times.

Without seeing the size differances, I am leaning toward 3540. Smaller size for wife to use, bigger more convienient for me to use. If they are close, it willl be a 3940.

I think he is talking about the hi/low hydro shifter on the left of the steering colums. On all HST+ GrandL's.

The L3540 and L3940 are very close on size. The L3940 is about 6" or so longer.

When we were looking, we quickly ruled the B3200 as too small then there was a 3240, 3540 and 3940 on the same lot with the 3540 and 3940 side by side. It was easier to compare that way. While the 3940 is a little bigger it was barely noticeable.

As mentioned, we determined they were all to small and went up to the 50HP units, but the 32/3540 and 3940 are nice tractors.

I believe the L3240/L3540 are three cylinder diesels,the L3940/L4240 are four cylinder.I have owned a L3130 and now a L4240.Like both tractors ,bought the L4240 for the cab mostly.
