You don't happen to have insurance on it do you? Sorry for your luck.

If you are mechanically inclined it should be something you can repair. Our Missouri farm has a L3000. My brother-in-law said it started making a knocking sound when traveling (meaning it wasn't engine). A couple days later I was down there and another brother-in-law and I tore the powertrain apart from front to rear before we found the culprit. Everything was very straightforward - but we do have a shop manual to which we never referred except for torques in reassembly. That did give us more confidence. We could have hauled it to the dealer but he quoted $2500 just to disassemble and find the problem.

That is exactly what happened and I can't even tell you how easily it did that much damage. I backed down a hill and hen it stopped I thought I hit a log so I rolled forward a foot and then backed up harder and crunch then splash! Hydro fluid spilling out everywhere.

So is it possible the end of the shaft dug in the ground while you were going backward, and then acted like a pry bar, wedged against the drawbar and pulling backward on the PTO stub until it fractured the case? If you knew whether the damage was from pushing or pulling on the stub it might help understand what's likely to be broken inside.

One poster asked whether you bought the insurance for it, you might also check your homeowner's coverage. I know my tractor is covered for theft and damage from accidents like having a tree fall on it because I asked about that. But I've never asked about coverage on this type of mechanical accident. Good luck whatever route you decide.

Hopefully you have the KTAC insurance. It is an accident. I believe they will pay. Maybe even you homeowners, but I am less sure there. I think this is going to run into some money.

Well the dealer is two weeks out just to look at it but the good news is that it should be covered by the mandatory insurance I bought when financing through kubota. Hopefully I dodged a bullet

I figured they would cover it.. Good thing you had it huh? I know you are still heartsick about the accident, but in a few weeks you will be all whole again, and back in the saddle.

I hadn't considered it breaking from a pulling force. The shaft was in the ground and it was under the weight of the tractor so it most likely was pulling by that point . I unbolted the cover but haven't removed it yet because its out in the rain. I'll take a look tomorrow. Luckily my neighbor has one to pull me up the hill.

Sorry, can,t help but that,s the reason I never remove the shaft from the cutter. I remove it from the tractor and leave it hooked up to the cutter

My dad had the same thing happen to his BX1800 a few years back. He had a rear tine tiller attached to his and the pto shaft was too long. It busted the housing around the pto shaft and repairs at the Kubota dealer ran around $2000. Good luck hope it all works out for you.

Well I got lucky as the damage was contained to the cover itself. The dealer wants to replace two bearings fluid and filter just in case there's any metal floating around so about 400.00 the bad news is I've gone almost two weeks and could have fixed it myself in three days. I'm thankful though and I'll never forget to release the drive shaft from the tractor again. Thanks all.
