GM transfer.....again.

I wonder what's going to happen to the GM plant in Shreveport, LA? They built Colorados there. It may already be shut down. Dana Corp in Longview, Tx built frames for those trucks, I believe it's shut down or going to shut down.

Yes. Shreveport is closing. It's sad to see another GM North American plant shut down. I started with GM in my home state of Georgia. It announced the closing of it back in 06. I left there and went to Arlington Assembly in TX. It's even more sad to see GM building new plants in China when there is so many Americans willing and wanting a job here.

Chris- sorry to hear about your job. Will you look for another position as a pilot? I swear that the economy is getting worse, not better. People (including myself) are simply doing more work for less pay.

Thanks. No worries. I still have a lot of friends and contacts in Ft. Wayne. The new trucks are pretty much ironed out and ready for full line build process. Units are already being built for sale to fill pre-orders.

Dang, Chris. I hate to hear that. Hopefully you won't have any trouble finding another job w your skill. This move for me is by choice. They offered and I took it. I worked in MO before coming here. Just like the area much better. Y'all Hoosiers have too long of Winters for me.

A neighbor of mine was laid off from GM's aviation department. They cut way back ( eliminated ) the corporate fleet during the crash. Last I heard, he was working down south someplace.

Yes, I will. My company was actually doing good. We make beer and wine bottles and when times are tough our business gets better. Problem is we got sold for 1.7 billion. The new owner did not want our current plane so it was sold. Cheap! The new owner will not be officially in place for about a month and they say they want a plane but are not sure on a timeline. I am not holding my breath or wating around so it may be time for a move.

Are they importing any vehicles from China?

Most of the GM vehicles imported here to the States are from either Mexico, Canada, or Korea. The new Buick Encore is from Korea along with the Chevy Spark. The Cadillac XTS began production in China this past Febuary. The XTS is also built in Canada where the U.S. gets their inventory from. The only units reaching dealers are currently sold to pre-order individuals. The plant will be working hard to stock dealer inventory next month.

They are wanting a job, but not wanting to do the work for the pay they offer. People now, want a ton of money to do nothing. I blame parents who do not instil the "work hard get paid" attitude. Ask any contractor here in Florida, the hard working people speak Spanish, because they can not find an American to work hard and do a good job and get paid for what they do. It is pathetic. I will not even go into the whole union thing. I worked for a large union company. It was pathetic that people had zero work ethic because "they were paid by the hour" . Not to mention they could flat out steel something, and get their job back because they were not the worst one in the pool to be fired at that moment. I guess I should say, hard working people have jobs, and can get a job if something happens to their current one. Others cant.
