This thread got me to thinking about a recent article discussing the cost of technology then and now.

The ad below is from 1991 and the details are here:1991 Radio Shack ad: 13 electronic products for $5k (and 290 hrs. work) can now be replaced with a $200 iPhone (10 hrs.) | AEIdeas. Who knows what "marvels" we will see in the next 20 years.

Steve, I think about that a lot. The more technology we have, the faster technology advances. I think us old guys will be shocked where technology is in 10 years.

I was talking to my 93 year old Mother a while back on my Cell phone. She said where are you? I said in Des Moines, which is about 100 miles from her house. She said "Oh My, I'm surprised I can hear you this well with you clear up there!!"

I just let it go.

We have a 6 pound Maltese that loves to bat the roll a few times and then play in the pile. Sometimes she will grab the pile and run through the house leaving a trail of paper behind her. It's like getting TP'd on Halloween.

Definitely from the top, easier to grab the start of the roll.

What about seat up or down? We sorted this by closing the lid so both have to lift.

I buy the toilet paper at my house; I unload it from the car, unwrap it and stack it in its little niche in the bathroom. I replace the little cardboard roller (known here abouts as a "toot-toot-tooter") with a new fresh roll of Charmin Ultra Strong, and the paper ALWAYS rolls toward the user. Always. Sometimes in her bathroom I will make a nice little institutional type pointy thing on the end of the first section of paper, if I feel like it, just to give her a little smile. I bugs the s**t out of me to try to get paper off a roll that rolls toward and down the wall. What I hate even worse is to not be able to find the free end of the paper. Irritating as if it were Scotch Tape.

Anyway, just a rant. I grew up with corn cobs and Sears Catalogs, and at times in my life have been thankful for couple of leaves off a Possum Grape vine.

That ole Chief had a thing about toilet seats also. We did not dare leave one up. He only allowed them up when cleaning (sometimes w/toothbrush). If he caught you using a toilet for a urinal; look out. easy to spot as there were no privacy partitions in those days. 12 nozzle gang showers also.

Never dreamed this little potty talk would get this much traction.
