I once saw a Suburban hauling what had to be a 40' piece of steel. They had it slung under it. It was tied off to the hitch in back and the front tow hooks in the front. It must have stuck out 10' in the front and 10' more in the back.

Chris

That would have been interesting on the approach to a steep driveway !

Lesser evil..... given the way many people tie-off things on roof racks, I'd sooner be sharing a road with somebody with the steel under the truck, than up top.....

I have seen people do that with oil field pipe more than once. Usually on a pickup.

An escort car leading and one following might be a good idea however. :D

Yea. This guy was on I70 doing 65 plus mph. No issues.

I hope that's a nice smooth highway.

Hitting a rough portion could pole-vault the truck.

:D

Don't let your tow strap slip off. Check the transmission and brake on the stuck vehicle.

Hitting something with a telephone pole under the truck would likely launch the operator through the front windshield.

that reminds me of another video on youtube involving an 18 wheeler that rolled on an inclined on/off ramp. when thy righted it with a tow truck the brakes on the 28 wheeler weren't set and it backed down the ramp and rolled the tow truck over

I guess this isn't anything unusual, but yesterday while driving down the road I could see from a distance a roll-back truck approaching hauling something? as it got closer I realized it was a car ( of-course ) actually 2 cars, the 1st car was a very nice classic convertible mustang, apparently the hood had released and flew up, laid back over the windshield, ooops! I don't know for how long it had been up.... or for how much further he would be hauling it, But I do know someone going to be very upset when they get their mustang delivered,

Haha, right? It actually looks like he is going fast enough to blur the tires and the road!

That's leads to an embarrassing call back to the office. Ouch!!!

I watched an TV episode last week of ( How it's made ) it showed how they built a big truck wrecker, The cost of this particular one they were building was $750,000,00 Makes me wonder what they charge for their wrecker service
the one in the video looked very similar to the 3/4 mil $$$ I seen on TV

Seven years ago I heard a quote of $6000 to tow semi tractor from Maryland to Starke, FL. I'm unsure if that $6000 covered the refer trailer or not.
