That slate looks really nice. What are you doing on the rest of the floor?

LOVE the sunset!!!

I hope you have a good pair of knee pads Scotty. :)

There is nothing easy about laying tile or slate alone. Mix the thinset, wash off the mixing beater, spread the thinset, dink around with the thinset and slates , back and forth to the wet saw, clean the bucket, repeat.

Good Morning Eddie and Dave,
Eddie, I am planning on using the 10 mm laminate flooring for both floors and also in the old section of the house, kitchen and dinning area. We settled on the Pergo, Highland Hickory, it has cushioned backing on it already. I believe it was $2.49 a square ft. So I think there should not be much of a transition height wise from the slate to the laminate.

I have two guys doing the insulation and they will also do the gutters and down spouts for the front and back of the addition.

Dave, I did buy a set of knee pads, although not the best I could buy, they helped a great deal ! Like I said before, I would not want to do that all the time !;)

Soon as the insulation is done I will start installing the V groove pine. Kathleen does not want me to do any cutting in the house, so I guess I will set it up outside the door ! :(;)

Its starting to come together !:)

Caution, Caution, Caution on the laminate flooring. I remember a post you did awhile ago on the flooring on your house and if it's the same thing and you are happy with it, then go for it. My experience with laminate floorings is that all of them curl up at the edges over time. Some faster then others, but they all do it. Then they start chipping at the corners. I've gotten to the point where I just wont do them anymore because of all the issues. The warrantee is just for a free replacement of the damaged flooring. They are pretty good about that, but once you get the new flooring, it's impossible to install it without destroying the rest of the floor. They do not come apart without damaging the edges that hold them together. Once damaged, it's garbage.

I installed laminate flooring in my "week-end" home in 2004 and it looks as good today as the day it was finished. this is a building that is unheated when we are not there, so it has seen a wide variety of temperatures and humidity levels. (Others results may vary.) Sorry I only seem to have a crappy photo.

Good Afternoon Eddie and Mike,
Thanks to both of you for your comments. Eddie I put some similar flooring down a number of years ago on the second floor of our Ct home and have not had any issues to date.

Getting to the floor in the Vt home, yes it is going on concrete, but I insulated the slab with 2" of hard insulation and also a vapor barrier. We are also planning on using a vapor underneath the floor. So I think we have taken some significant protective measures, time will tell ! Hopefully it will be OK, if not I only have myself to blame for not listening ! ;)

We just ordered the flooring needed so its not available yet. This coming week I am planning on starting to put up the V groove pine.....:)

I'm not trying to bad mouth the flooring. I know some people love it, and it's hard to find something better for the price of it. The ease of installation is also a big plus. What I see is the ridges that form along the sides of every piece. From some angles it's not even visible, but when the light is right, it jumps out at you and then that's all you notice. I'm not sure if I see that in your pic or not, but it does look like the edges are raised to me. This is something that just keeps happening until it starts chipping.

WOW you see raised edges on the day the install was completed. Being in the room today I cannot see or feel raised edges. As I said others results may vary!!

This is a fine looking abode Scott. It all looks very cohesive and integral. Didn't know where "East Wells" was located otherwise I would have stopped with a few salami and provolone sandwiches on the way up to Ludlow where the family skis. Farthest west I've been in VT. is Rutland when we picked up a horse when my girls were in Pony Club. Always liked VT. Once saw Michael J. Fox in Woodstock. I guess he owned a house up there for a bit. I was also into woodworking for a while. Built all the furniture (not couches) in the living room with this junky old Craftsman table saw I got at a yard sale for $50. I got trained by a Tage Frid back in 76 and that training remained latent for about 15 years until I found the table saw. I gotta find something else to do as I get bored with stuff rather quickly. Love what you're making.

Good Morning Lou,
Thanks so much for your kind comments !

We are only about 10 miles in from the Ny border, the very beginning of the green mountain chain. We are at about 1200 ft above sea level. Ludlow is about 45 mins to our east, so really not that far. We are about 1 mile off of RT 133.

Thats how I started into wood working also, bought an old Craftsman table saw, and went from there !:)

BTW I love salami and provolone ! If you ever do want to stop, send me a PM and will try and get together !
