Finally, the trusses are up. Quite primitive way to lift it but the boom in the bucket technique worked perfectly. We started adding the purlins on top but the rain stopped us. Hope we can finish all tomorrow. We found challenging working at heights. Now, already thinking at an easy way to work at gables, other than renting a skyjack. How you guys deal with that? Are you building a wood scaffold? Any ideas?

...8' trusses and 2x4's on edge, dropped in double saddle hangers...cheaper than 4' trusses overall. Trusses were a bit more expensive, $180 ea vs the $120 for the 4' trusses. But fewer were needed so it was cheaper overall. No need for the larger header, and purlin cost would be the same since it was still 2x4's. So alot of stuff make it cheaper, and the only added cost was the saddle hangers, but the savings was more than the added cost...

I've found that without any load at all, a 2x4 will bend on you over an 8 foot span. 2x6's with joist hangers would be my choice, but instead of using joist hangers, I would have gone over the tops of the trusses with 16 footer, or even better, 2x6x24 foot long ones and have them on top of three trusses, and then stagger the ends.

Nice looking building. What I've done before is to set scaffolding on a deck over trailer. I have a gooseneck. Set it up the way you need it to reach whatever. Then it's mobile and maneuverable with tractor. A couple of straps and it's as stable as the trailer. Go ahead and put your wind bracing inside the walls and you can take down all the temporary braces.

Another full weekend work after framing inspection. The inspector requested to add boards under the lean-on rafters as he said, the hangers are not enough. We were able to built a scaffold at one end so we can reach the roof peak and also to install the steel for gable portion. Also, first steel panel on roof is up. Here are couple pictures to enjoy.

Hard to tell in the pictures, but it looks like you used 2x4 hangers for the lean-to rafters? if thats the case, I would tend to agree with the inspector.

Looks great! Please don't take this as criticism or any sort of comment on your work ethic but I wouldn't have been able to contain myself to just one roof panel. I'd have been so excited to be getting them on, I'd have kept at it until midnight if that's what it took. You have more self control than me. :)

Yep, I feel guilty already :). Working entire weekend at the barn plus considering that I have to go at work at 5am next day, not sure if I wish to be on the roof at midnight. What I will do if I'll finish everything in one night

I am tired after seeing all you have been able to do.

I've got 4' between trusses. In the future I'll install solar panels on the roof so I need a solid roof.

If you intend to install a ceiling in the future, the 4 foot spacing will also be a great advantage. For pure storage, 8 foot spacing has advantages, but if you are finishing the inside, 4 foot is the way to go.
