I see those trucks here too. I tend to think they're the guys that mostly talk about what they can do or are planning to do, but nothing ever gets done. I think they spend too much time polishing their trucks to do much else...

I think I have the whole towing mileage thing figured out. I have a 12 year old Nissan with 166K miles that handles 98 % of what I need, not the greatest MPG but been paid for for 9 years the payments I would be making cover more than the fuel costs. I have a friend with an F250 Diesel that lets me use it for the other 2% just costs me a tank of fuel. My Rules not his. He gets to use my tractor whenever he wants ( I haven't told him that part yet). I am starting to think about a new truck if it lasts like the nissan it will hold me till I'm 70.

If the EPA had stopped at Tier II instead of current Tier IV and going to Tier V in 2019. It would be all moot point as Diesels would be the preferred engine in most applications.

The government MUST make everything more complicated. They need the appearance they're earning your money. It's for your own good.

My wife bought an Ecodiesel last year after her 10 year-old Sierra crapped out. So far, the performance has been pretty close to the EPA mileage ratings. She gets roughly 10 liters per hundred km with her (conservatively-driven) daily commute and around 12 lphk when towing the loaded horse trailer....which works out to 23 and 19 mpg, respectively.

My volvo runs 5.5 liter per 100km daily commute (fast lane) and 10l per 100km with a 2 ton tractor on the trailer. The latter adds up to a GCW of 4200kg or 9500 lbs.

Volvo what? The max tow rating for a Volvo car (XC90) in the US is 1,800kg (4,000 lbs).

You're not allowed to wee against old church walls either, but they turn green anyways.... and you only make the news if you wee -over- the church :D

Its a Dutch saying. Which means, some things are not allowed by law, yet the same result may occur by non-prohibited events, or it will happen anyways. And with these things, you usually dont get in trouble with the law, unless you get carried away so much that it really draws attention.

Mine is a 1999 S70 TDI, with a tow rating of 1600kg. Which is merely a warranty thing, because with its suspension and wheelbase, it tows 2 tons much better than a short wheelbase Nissan Patrol 4x4 which has a tow rating of 3500kg.
