Seeking advice on welding hook to FEL bucket

I've taken several welding tests for construction projects in the local Navy ship yards. When I walked into the testing booth, duct tape was over all the gauges on the welder. First part of the test was to set the welder within the wire manufacture's specs. If not, test was over right then and there!

L-56 wire is made by Lincoln.
Here are my Mig settings.
.030" wire flat. 22-volts. 154-AMPS. 400 wire speed.
.030" wire vertical up hill. 21.6-volts. 78-AMPS. 200 wire speed.

.035" wire flat. 23-volts. 160-AMPS. 240 wire speed.
.035" vertical up hill. 18.0-volts. 125-AMPS. 198 wire speed.

.045" wire flat. 21.5-volts. 191-AMPS. 200 wire speed.
.045" wire vertical up hill. 18.5 volts. 140-AMPS. 120 wire speed.
One thing I wish my Miller 211MVP had is digital volt/amp read out. would be more informational than than the arbitrary numbers on the dials I have.

Yep. I had never tested mine. The wire speed is off by 15%.

All you need is a pencil, or soap stone. Once you find your numbers, what works best for you, then mark the face plate.

I marked mine with different colored paint depending on thickness of metal I was working with. I used the chart inside the spool cover of my welder. Now I realize that guide doesn't suit my technique. I get much better results using the chart SA linked me to on Miller's website. So I made a new chart and fastened it to the side of the welder. :)

When I started, all you seen on construction sites were these welders. Then in the early 1980s Lincoln came out with the LN-22 wire feeders. By the Mid 1980s the LN-25s came out. That's when the structural welding world changed. I would go for years not seeing welding rod on the job. It was all wire.

I have an AC/DC Lincoln tombstone welder for rod use. I keep it at my farm. I have to burn a little rod before the proper technique comes back to me after welding with wire. :)

Are the welders in your pics yours?? Very nice restored Welders!!!!!

In Iraq I watched an Iraqi use an old diesel powered generator for a welder. Also used a piece of cardboard with slits cut in it for a helmet. I am ashamed that I didn't get a picture. :)
