Anyone have a 17 super duty?

So, with your general knowledge of a trucks workings.... You don't see how a malfunctioning DEF system can burn valves the same way a clogged up catalytic converter does a gas motor?

No I don't see how that can happen. A failure of the def system causes urea to not be injected into the exhaust. It's not causing a restriction as your alluding to with a plugged cataylitic converter.

The only way def burns valve's, is by putting def fluid in the fuel tank and not in the def tank.

DEF is injected into a particulate filter to burn off the particles. Too much DEF, clogged system, too little DEF, clogged system. You need to further your general knowledge.

But would DEF, which is mostly water, pass thru the fuel filters and actually get to the injectors in enough quantity to cause valve issues?

Ummm, you don't need to be a licensed Ford mechanic to know the general workings of the truck. Do you have to be a Ford tech to check oil? Put fuel in? Geez dude.

Boy it's obvious you know more then the engineers who designed the system, Geez Dude grow up fool!

Well def is not injected Into the particulate filter. It's injected into the scr, select catylist reduction. Maybe you should up your general knowledge, and the most common failures associated with it.

You are correct.

But any restriction in the exhaust, of any engine in the world that has ever been produced in the history of mankind will burn exhaust valves if not corrected. It matters not if it is caused by DEF malfunctions, a used up CAT or a rock crushed pipe. When the exhaust can't flow, the exhaust valves can't cool. That is a fact. Stating that DEF can't be the cause of valve failure is wrong.

Well, doesn't the exhaust flow through a turbo and particulate filter, which are both factory restrictions? The turbo is used as a exhaust break and the particulate filter only regens when almost plugged. Valves are fine for hundred's of thousands of miles.

Not sure if this relates but it does talk about cracked valves, Check this out. As I said guys don't shoot the messenger, some may not like what others have had troubles with but it is what it is, whether it be Ford dodge Chevy issues are issues.

[ Ford 6.7 liter diesel failure
A mechanic at a Ford dealership in Az posts interesting you-tube clips.
The 6.7 liter Scorpion engine made in Mexico by Ford has a failure pattern
in the non-waste gated chassis---F 450 and 550.
Multiple exhaust valve fractures in vehicles with as little as 20,000 miles.

apparently Ford is redesigning the head

here are 3 short clips

Yeah this was an early issue on some of the 450's and 550's. The links you posted are from 5 years ago, and in the video he says they engines were already changed earlier on those non-waste gate styles.

I just don't see it, but I guess there could be an edge case.

If too much DEF is injected and it causes issues with the DPF regen process, bad things happen. Could it wreck exhaust valves? Maybe.

DEF is not part of the DPF regen process. DEF is injected in the exhaust stream AFTER the DPF.

How bout we get back to the '17 Super Duty, eh? It is one freaking awesome truck! Can't wait to hook my fifth wheel behind it!
