Anyone have a 17 super duty?

My dad has a fleet of 6.0 trucks. Every winter the trucks get fluid maintenance, with one of the fluids that gets replaced is the coolant. Because the coolant never got to the point of the silicates falling out of suspension and clogging up the oil cooler, we never had EGR issues. Those tucks never had any problems that other 6.0 that were neglected had.

You will not find a tougher bottom end on any diesel out there. That is one area international did a find job on, because they were originally built as a bus engine.

I am a huge fan of 6.0 diesel trucks, but one has to understand them to own them.
Exactly. A friend of mine is a diesel mechanic and used to work for an International Truck Center. He said that the big trucks that did not have all of the added emissions equipment and who used heavy duty green coolant, did not have the same issues that were found in the Ford trucks.

But with all that said, I haven't heard anything bad yet about the new in-house 6.7 diesels. The new trucks look beautiful. Too rich for my blood though

The International versions were also pushing 100 less HP and 100 +/- less ft-lbs of torque too. There's a huge difference when you turn the power up a bit.

I have never seen a bottom end let go on a 6.0 power stroke. Even with very hot tunes. There are a lot of examples of 1,000+ horsepower builds that have stock bottom ends. Now the 6.7 is a fantastic engine, but Ford never put a bed-plate on them. They rely on a CGI block. The big horsepower builds require filling the block to add the strength that a bed plate adds.

The 6.0 has a very thick bed plate (griddle) that makes the crankshaft very rigid.

Yeah, the 6.0 bottom end was very stout. As far as the 6.7, well if 440 HP and 925 ft-lbs isn't enough for you, then I guess you gotta pay to play!

I just brought mine home. WOW! This thing is amazing! 60-80 MPH is just effortless. Makes my old 6.4L seem like a dog!

It's funny you mention the 6.4 powerstroke. It has always been my opinion that was the most powerful light duty diesel on the market, once the emissions were taken off of course. It derived all it's power from the twin turbo and there was no turbo lag, instant power from off throttle to red line. Ironically the 6.0 and the 6.4 are the same block, but the fueling, heads, and air management systems are different. The problem with the 6.4 was the emissions and it caused Ford and International to part ways.

The 6.7 has been a home run for Ford. I haven't tried a 17 yet, but I know the changes Ford did for 2015 made a world of difference (more fueling capacity, a VGT turbo, and new injectors).

My brother has a 2015 F550 custom fifth wheel mule, he pulls a heavy monster 40 foot Cedar Creek with 5 slides from Az to Ticonderoga New York and back for the past few years. Beautiful loaded crew cab, in the shop in AZ., mechanics said DEF fluid basically destroyed the valves, by the way cab off for repairs, not sure of cost but I'll update. Just wondering if any other 6.7 PSD owners have same issue?

The 6.0 is what really cost International the relationship with Ford. There is a big back-story on that about International trying to slide by without developing the engine up-front for pickup use and they band-aided a lot of things. Lawsuits both ways, and that was the killer. The 6.4L was just a stop-gap to meet emissions until Ford had the 6.7L ready, and International was not prepared to use DEF to meet the more stringent emissions in 2010.

The 6.4L is truly a monster once deleted. However, mine had quite a bit of lag, even with the dual turbos (not twin, there is a difference :)). This 6.7L has virtually no lag. It would flat walk away from my 6.4L, but mine were all stock.

The only way DEF could destroy the valves is if someone put DEF in the diesel fuel. DEF is injected in the exhaust and is never near the engine.

Only saying what Ford mechanic told him but are you a Licensed Ford mechanic?

I'm not a Ford mechanic but I know DEF isn't injected into the combustion chamber.
