Usualy those are ductile iron or some other form of casting/forging. You could try to weld it back on but i dont see it lasting very long.

When you get replacement shanks get a spare because its only a matter of time.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I am going to cut it off with my oxy/acetylene torch and weld on the new one with 7018 rod. I thought about a repair but there is no way to add extra steel for reinforcement since the tooth has to slide over the shank.

I just came across this thread. You’ve already received good advise and prolly already have it fixed!

I’ll add exothermic lance to options for cutting it off though.

This is just a follow up question. The bucket I am using is relatively new. Maybe 150 hours dig time. The cutting edge and shanks only have 30 hours time. The reason is the original edge snapped (was told they had a defective batch) and the bucket mfg repaired the bucket with a new edge and shanks. The entire bucket is made with USA steel. The cutting edge and shanks are from Romac which is all Chinese steel. I was told that it is impossible to get a USA made cutting edge and shanks. Is this true and do others have any experience with Romac products?

I used to sell Arcair Slice Exothermic. ( still have one ) Fun product and crazy destructive.. Once we pierced holes in a huge boulder and hit it with sledge hammers to bust it up. Worked perfectly.

I know nothing about the Romac. Pretty sure someone on here does.

I have the SLICE too. Do you say “It’s been a slice” when you’re completed the cut like I do ????

Great for those pesky bank vault doors.

*not really. In actuality a lot of the loot would be on fire. Don’t believe everything you see in bank heist movies.

I can't answer the question about Romac products, but I can say that I've had Hensley shanks snap in the exact same place, I don't use any of the top pin or side pin teeth anymore and I've had zero problems with loosing teeth or snapping shanks. Cut off the broken one and weld in a new one OR cut them all off and put on alll new different style shanks.....

What type of shanks/teeth do you use?

Is their a good source to buy a tooth? I have a front tooth bar on my front end loader and the firm that made it is out of business.
