My dog...

Never would have guessed there's no Lab in her past. The shelter we rescued our Heeler mix from insisted she was an Aussie Cattle Dog (ACD) but I had my doubts. The vet said no way, she's a mix. an ACD has a relatively short stubby tail and it's straight and not curled up like ours is.

A mixed breed is usually healthier than a purebred that has a limited gene pool. We had two adult corgis from a highly respected breeder and they both passed at about 12 years of age due to heart issues.

Glad she's a good pup for you.

My wife and I just got an ACD from a breeder, she’s been doing it for 20 years, woman knows her stuff. I’m not pretending to be a dog expert, but our ACD has a long tail that curls up. She’s 4 1/2 months old now, she’s a great pup. The kids love her, and she’s well behaved for a puppy!

Oh, what a cutie pup! That face is ACD all the way, I have no special knowledge about the ACD breed so I would trust your breeder. I will say our Texas Heeler does not exhibit the herding behavior of a Border Collie. They stare down the herd.

We have a rescue Weimaraner, got him when he was 8-12 months old, He was from Tennessee and was a "outdoor" dog as we were told... never inside a house. When he arrived here, he had never seen a ball..his favorite thing was chasing a stick..any stick, didnt matter. It took him a few months to figure out a ball did the same thing.

I've always heard that a dog is either a stick dog.....or a ball dog.

We've had dogs here that seemed to clearly prefer one over the other. One of them would (like your pipe) get excited....look around.... and grab anything it could that was a stick.

It didn't matter if it was a twig that is six inches in length or a 2" limb that was 8' long.... he'd drag it and he'd sometimes knock your car with it...

Didn't matter what he was doing (in his mind) as long as he had something stick shaped in his mouth. Would go past a ball to get the stick.

Our first corgi would chase a ball until her tongue turned purple, she was a bunch of fun. Corgi #2 could care less about playing fetch, her brother was the same way. Our Lab lives to fetch, even when I'm on the throne he brings me a toy.

The first dog my wife and I had was a blue Doberman.. he was a really special dog for us. I probably hit 500,000 golf balls with him. And he would chase them all day long. To the point where I could put a golf ball within 2 feet of a pin from 50 yards every time. Really miss him.

That would be awesome to have a golf ball fetching dog. Especially if they would let you bring them to the golf course and fetch only the balls that went OB! :D

Both my last and current dogs (both labs) would chase whatever you would throw for them. When my first dog was about 5 months old I bought a pair of raquet balls and was at my sister's camp, throwing one into the water and letting her chase it. When she got tired instead of returning to me she took the ball off into the woods and hid it.
The next weekend we were back at the same place and I was throwing the second ball for her to swim out and retrieve. After a while I guess that she got tired again... she went off into the woods and came back with the first ball in her mouth.

My dog will chase cows, horses, UTVs, tractors and trucks. He will not chase a ball or stick. I guess he's spoiled.
