I'm not too worried about prices because my clients pay for materials. Finding what I need has become an issue. I have a little side business of building custom gates out of cedar and I haven't been able to find tongue and groove cedar for a month now. I make a grand for each gate and people are waiting for me to build them.

Just crazy... I sure hope we aren't staring at those prices next summer. I have a couple of outdoor shed projects needing some framing and sheathing that I have been putting off.

Sadly the winner is the loser in this case. If this goes long term, I wouldn't be surprised if they abandoned stick frame housing. In a lot of the newly developing asian countries everything is concrete/block/brick because they don't have a whole canada just above them to harvest wood for them. Even the telephone poles are concrete.

A lot of people in the industry have the same fears. See my post #5.
OTOH there is a trend toward larger apartment and office type complexes made out of laminated timbers. They are supposedly more "green", and apparently can withstand a hot fire longer.

I'm not sure why you said that, I figured out that a chainsaw mill wasn't worth the time/energy spent about 45 years ago...
