Got wood?

I'm not too worried about prices because my clients pay for materials. Finding what I need has become an issue. I have a little side business of building custom gates out of cedar and I haven't been able to find tongue and groove cedar for a month now. I make a grand for each gate and people are waiting for me to build them.

Shingles were another thing.... many styles and colors were out of stock with no estimated time of availability.

Vinyl siding that was advertised as in-stock was no longer in-stock.

Again, already an existing thread with many similar replies.......

I'll never use shingles again. Metal roof all the way for me now. I just tore off a small section of shingles to replace with metal. They'd only been up maybe 15 years art the most and were completely rotted and useless; crumbling to small pieces as I tried to remove them.

Haven't looked into vinyl siding recently, but vinyl gutters and trim pieces like soffit and fascia are in full stock with normal prices.

They had white gutters, soffit, trim, and fascia in stock. But the siding in colors, and the trim for that is what is delayed.

As member OldPath will attest cedar sawlogs are in high demand around here. The problem is
A) It's the wrong time of year to cut in cedar swamps
and
B) The market for cedar shingles is glutted and it's hard to produce cedar sawlogs without making a certain percentage of wood only suitable for shingles.

I’ve been able to get regular lumber pretty well but the price is ridiculous. Pressure treated is ridiculous and you can’t hardly get it. Vinyl siding is on months back order. Conduit doubled in price a couple weeks ago.

You'd never know by the price! My house has cedar shingle siding, I re-did one side this summer...they were close to $60/bundle!! Fortunately, I'd planned this project for a couple years, and would buy broken bundles when they had them...usually got them for half price.

Here’s how I fixed the pressure treated lumber situation. I’ve got about $6 a foot in that. A PT lumber package is like $10 a foot now. IMG_9146.JPG
