Got wood?

I don’t build anything like that. Would you use it to build a 1400 square foot house?

Today price:
2x4x8 construction grade wood stud = $5.22
3-5/8" x 8' 20g metal stud = $4.53
3-5/8 x 8' 25g metal stud = $3.11

Even though the price of metal framing studs are up, it is a great alternative to wood; and most are made in America today. Once you guy's go metal, you'll never go back to wood.

I used metal floor joists in the garage and they were great. Very strong, but it's not very customizable after the fact. Comes pre-drilled, but drilling is a no-no if you need something else. If you encounter an issue you didn't anticipate, it's much harder to put something together to fix it. With wood, it's a lot easier to work with.

I was going to build a carport type shed for storing stuff out of the rain and snow until I saw the prices on posts and lumber.

By buddy and I are looking at buying a portable bandsaw mill.

You won't regret that decision. I bought a Woodmizer LT40HD Wide diesel for building my own log home. I keep having to turn down offers for me cut wood for others, because I don't have the time right now.
hugs, Brandi

I've never used metal studs or joists. How easy is it to integrate them with other wood members in construction?

I don稚 know about studs but joists was simple, the joists screw into rim track that goes in the end making a T, and all that just sits on the header for the wall. 10 joists can span 24? eliminating the need for posts or beams and allowing open space, and have a greater load rating than 2x12 with half the span. The price is not unreasonable either, I paid $5400 for my 24x44 floor with a 2 day install using a drywall lift to lift them into place. I would definitely do it again.

Its all just a scam too, we have 3 lumber mills by us. Huge piles of logs outside. Mill running 3 shifts. Huge stacks of wrapped wood outside. There shipping less to raise prices. I need to go snap some pics.

Yeah when I laid out my dream two story shop which is now on the shelf due to permitting issues, I was figuring a 24ft span as I hate posts in the middle of a room. Wasn't considering metal studs though just looking at alternatives for joists.

That’s exactly what I expected.
