I'm about ready to upgrade my remote watering capacity from 48 gal to an IBC tote at either 275 gal or 330 gal. The routine is that I fill water at my house and drive 4 miles to my property to water vegetables & vineyard. Last year this was a real pain with the small tank I have for my F150 pickup. These IBC tanks will weigh more than 2K lbs when full. I'm open to ideas but I'm thinking either a small trailer for the IBC tank or beefing my rear suspension to handle the extra weight. How do others get their liquid filled IBC totes around?

Any updates?

Pictures?

I'm thinking of making a trailer to haul 2 to 3 totes with a ~2" pump.

7 year old thread.

Hauling totes with water in them can be very dangerous, particularly if the tote is not full. The sloshing of the water moves the center of gravity and the tote would want to move on the trailer. At 2000 lbs it must be secured properly.

Thanks. I did not wanna start a new post. Seems people get their panties all up in a bunch. They respond "Well, DID YOU SEARCH!!??". So when someone asks a question, they get attacked by the Search police.

Yet, when someone uses "search" and updates a post, regardless of age (could be 6 min or 600 years old)...

Anywho...

I understand where you are coming from. I had a tote in my HD, full it road fine. With less then 3/4, it would move the truck around when stopping.

The trailer I'm thinking of would have 2 to 3 totes. I figure it would be equal to having a ~700 Gallon tank, but with baffles.

Thanks

Don't worry about small stuff like that. Ask whatever you need to ask and don't worry about a self appointed forum cop.

pure life for living youtube channel covers there IBC tote hauling trailer a lot.

Upgrading Our $2/mo Gravity Fed Water System - YouTube

Simple 4x8 3500lb utility trailer. If you want to haul 2 your going to need to step up to a dual axle.

would be easy to haul on a landscape trailer with some chain run though the bottom steel pallet.

I have a 4x7' trailer with a mobile home axle and 6000# springs and use with a 300 gallon tote. Works great. Two axles for two totes would make it road worthy, which mine is not so much.

I haul 2 totes on my 7k lb utility trailer, if you make one, make it wide enough to haul 2 side by side, I can almost do it on mine but not quite.

The 275gal is actually 300 gal when full, we fill ours off a metered fire hydrant.

I modified my Landpride SSQA forks to go on my 3PH so I could carry fully loaded 275 gallon IBC totes around. Haven't needed to yet though.

All I got.

I filled up my 275 gallon tote twice today to water my young apple and plum trees. I set the tote in the creek (gravel bottom) and use two 12V bilge pumps run off of the tractor battery, fills the tote in 15 minutes. Creek is about 10 inches deep at this spot so it works quite well. My FEL handles the tote full, no problem. I am thinking about switching to a 3 point setup so I can use a tractor without a FEL.

This is precisely how much my L4060 with the medium loader will lift. Had to drain maybe 5-10 gallons to be able to get it a couple feet off the ground. Hydraulic and/or loader engineering is the limits here. Stability was fine with moderate to low ballast on the 3pt. Never put it in 4wd or had any traction issues (no hills to deal with though). 20180701_185901.jpeg

I have found totes from $10.00 up to over a thousand new. The $10.00 ones had used fryer grease in them. But they are all 1000 liter. Are there smaller ones one could put in the back of a mule? I only want to partially fill it and put a bit of air pressure to it.

When only partially full the water sloshes around and things can get pretty crazy as the center of gravity is moving and the momentum is slamming on the sides. There are no baffles in these totes.

Yup, I can feel the half full tote sloshing good on my loader at 4-5mph.

They really only come in 275 & 330 gallon varieties at least in the USA. Anything else isn't really an IBC tote. Intermediate bulk container - Wikipedia

Hi all, new to this forum.
While realizing this is an old thread, can anyone make a good recommendation where to purchase a trailer which can securely haul two IBC totes? I'm looking at new as well as pre-owned
(Second - I hope this doesn't get me banished, yet I'm actually looking to tow it after a pickup, not a tractor :)

Thanks,
/Max

It would probably help if you would tell people where you are located, unless you are just buying a new trailer from one of the big 3 trailer manufacturers. If you are in Northeast Fl, SE Ga, I might know of a good deal...

On the subject of tote size -
I had been seeing 150 and 130 gallon size for sale in the northeast Mississippi area, on Facecrap.
/edit - but I'm not finding them now.

Haul them safely on a highway or around you're property? Big difference in recommendations. Keep in mind you're talking about more than 4,000# for two 275 gallon totes, that's a lot heavier than it sounds and should absolutely have trailer brakes if you're on the roadways and probably needs a 3-4k tow vehicle minimum to safely pull/control it on your property.

Exactly. If they are 275 gallon totes, each tote will be 2200# (plus tare weight, 80-100#?), so to haul 2 loaded totes I would want a minimum of a 6000# rated trailer (usually has a pair of 3500# axles), however those are few and far between, so a 7000# trailer (be it a landscape trailer or a car hauler) with a tow vehicle that is rated to tow at least the weight of the trailer plus 4600#. If the trailer has electric brakes, a brake controller would be required
You will have to adjust the placement to fit your needs, but I would start with the back edge of one tote lined up with the rear axle and the back edge of the other one lined up with the front axle
Something like this picture (stolen from: Aquaponics System Timeline. ), but with just the 2 totes over the axles:
