Can the hydraulic system get air locked after a fluid change

/ Can the hydraulic system get air locked after a fluid change #31
I tried forcing air in thru filler tube.
Good idea. For that to work you would have had to also plug the sump vent tube back by the 3pt. Otherwise the forced air does nothing. Even if this method works, it will only allow the pump to get fluid while the sump is pressurized. If pressure works, and then the pump quits when the pressure is removed then you have found the problem.

Raised rear wheels and ran in forward and reverse. I then tried it on the ground and it will travel as it should for a short distance then stop.
If it travels at all, your problem is not the hydraulic pump.
If I am on a down hill slope it rolls along as if I'm in neutral. Pushing pedal back and forth it will engage again for a short distance.
Typical when a pump is starving for fluid.
The whining noise is only as it engages and not so much when traveling. Found 2 small leaks , 1 or 2 drops now and then but it has done that for a long time before this trouble started. Thanks I appreciate all the help.
See if you can figure out for sure that the pump is getting fluid. it sounds to me like it is not.

The hydraulics of a tractor are a separate system from engine and transmission. A moving tractor will not necessarily mitigate the idea of a pump in failure.
The tractor can still move but may have no power reserve to operate the actual hydraulics on a tractor.

That's true, except for tractors with HST transmissions of course. And a couple of - not all of - the power shifts. Somehow I had gotten the idea that his Kioti was a hydrostat. If not, that's my mistake.

Looks like there might be a leak in this hose.I'll replace and get new clamps before I start the tractor . I'm now draining all fluid and will put it back in slow.

Going as slow as possible

Scotty, that depends on the extent of pump failure. With total failure, you are correct of course.
I have seen hydrostats barely creep along with a compromised pump. If I read correctly, his tractor moves if it’s down hill then it stops or something to that effect. Replacing these pumps brought the tractor back to life.
Now this is with my brand and granted am unfamiliar with set ups in other brands meaning if there are safety valves that engage with a sensor solenoid or relay so a tractor doesn’t blow its pump upon a fluid distress situation.
At any rate, l hope the op all the luck in the world to find the solve to this problem inexpensively with the leak in his suction tube perhaps being a main culprit.

We have discussed a suction air leak as being the most probable culprit several times in different posts since a week ago. We even discussed how it can happen as rubber connecting tubing ages. The tubing cannot be reclamped, it has to be replaced.

Post #34 points to the exact spot. So are we back to a suction air leak again?

Have patience my friend.
For the experienced in these kind of problems it is of common nature to suspect certain things.
For the inexperienced, sometimes things have just to sift down but I commend the op in eventually finding a probable cause.
When a problem is posed remotely without the benefit of having the machine or the owner in physicality, most of the times its a guessing game as problems can be caused by several things.
Hopefully in time, things finally connect to resolve an issue.
