    Ruts

I use a tiller, making a couple of passes to loosen things up. Then the box scraper to cut and fill. If there are rocks to sort out, I'll make a couple of passes with the rake. For smaller ruts, I'll fill them with compost.

I'll sure miss this oak tree...

+1, around here a 60" oak tree would be 300+ years old. I cut down a 40" hickory last year and stopped counting rings at 200, I easily had another 50 to go.

    Identify tree via bark?

If they were my trees, I'd cut them all to 9' and have them milled to random/max width with a thickness of 5/4" . 9' logs yield 8' boards and are way easier to handle than longer logs. 5/4 boards make nice furniture and shelves.

    Carpenter Bees ...

I've tried everything from traps to tennis rackets to .22 shot, nothing beats FenvaStar EcoCap. In the spring I treat exposed wood, twice a few days apart and then repeat again in the fall. It's not immediate, one poisoned bee will poison several more. A few days after treating you'll see...

L2501 forestry winch too small to be useful? Other options?

No backlash on my Igland winch in 10 years of use. It has a brake to keep it the cable from making a mess on the spool. I'm good about respooling it under tension at least once or twice a season. I set the brake so I have to pull fairly hard to get slack, you don't want it free spooling. I...

    Logging winch slips

Sounds like you need a clutch adjustment. My clutch disk is smooth as well, but does not slip. You do know that you only get full power when the cable is fully pulled out. The first wrap on the drum gets the most pulling power, the winch capacity drops fast as the drum fills up with cable.

Have you ever shipped a vehicle across the country?

20 years ago we bought a truck out of state, 1000 miles away. Rented a car for the ride out and drove the truck back with temp plates. We wrapped a 3 day vacation around the trip with the kids. Shipping it would have been cheaper, but the 3 day road trip was much more fun.

    Blow airbags on snowdrifts?

Our town still has several old Walters (1950's vintage) with Vee plows and double wings. They get pulled out of cold storage when we get hit with nor'easters that dump 4'+ of snow. We also have a pair of 1950's snowblowers to handle 10'+ snow drifts.

    driveway marker spacing distances

I have 800'+ of driveway and use 48" and 54" reflective fiberglass markers every 8 paces, on both sides, (in a zipper formation, that way there's a marker every 4 paces). Curves get an extra marker at the inside of the curve. I use a 12"x1/2" bit in a cordless hammer drill to set them 6"-8"...

    R.O.W. Problem

Violations of deed covenants/restrictions are a civil matter, there is nothing you can do to escalate with the sheriff or town or county. At a minimum the HOA needs to take this guy to small claims court every time he misses his annual HOA dues. If the dues are "voluntary", why would anyone...

With over a mile of property line I have a few property line blow downs every year. I have an agreement with my neighbor, (a very good neighbor), that any tree that blows down onto his property is his. The wind blows toward his property 95% of the time, so that's where the blowdowns go. He's...

Snowplowing unfrozen gravel...with skid shoes or without?

If the ground is not frozen I avoid snow blowing/plowing. We have AWD, so that first snow storm gets packed down. We've thawed out 3 times this winter, normally once the ground freezes it stays frozen until spring. If the first storm of the year is major, I'll run the blower tipped back...

    Mf202 6’ or 6.5’ snowblower? Quick opinions

I see the MF202 is a 40 hp machine. I'm running a 6.5' Agrotrend blower on a 37 hp tractor and wouldn't want anything smaller. 25 years of use and I'm still a happy camper.

Welded vs bolted scraper edge-3pt blower

My 25 year old AgroTrend blower has a welded edge, my gravel driveway is 800'+ and I live in the snowbelt. The edge is fine, no wear to speak of. I wouldn't worry about welded or bolted, the edge will outlast you, as will a quality snow blower.
