Murphy's oil soap to clean. Do not refinish. The interior is most likely raw, a light sanding will restore the cedar smell. Use it and enjoy it.

    Electric ZT

I've been mowing 4 - 5 acres with my commercial zero turn for the past 20 years. I expect the mower to outlast me, (I'm 60). I've replaced the mower deck belt once, the battery a few times and new blades every 3 years. No issues other than routine maintenance.

    Wood chips and composting

I'm fortunate to have a neighbor that drops off 10-15 bushels of horse manure a week. I mix my wood chips in and turn the pile once or twice a month. By spring time I have a 40 - 60 yard pile of nice compost for the garden. I've been tilling that in for the past 15+ years, my garden is now a...

Smoke, rough running and no power above an idle

Does your Mahindra have an EGR valve? Those are the symptoms my neighbor had with his Mahindra. It took several service calls then finally a new EGR and a software update to correct the problem. I was convinced it was a fuel filter or air filter problem.

Sump pump time again warranty issues

A submersible pump will run forever as long as it's submerged, (cold water), a pedestal pump will eventually overheat, it's air cooled. I replace my very seldom used sump pump about every 5 years, keeping the old one as a backup, or a loaner.

Material costs rising- what would you buy now to hedge inflation

    Shop Lift

I was able to install my 4 post in a weekend, alone. I used a shop/engine hoist to pick things up and 4 wheeled dollies to move things around. Slow and steady, less than 12 hours from pieces on a pallet to having a working lift with a car off the ground. Two people can do this in 4 hours if...

    Cleaning out Drain Pipe

I used 4" N12 pipe, corregated exterior, smooth wall interior, (10K crush). I agree 30 years of good service is good enough. Now I wait for the frost to leave before getting a ditch witch for the day.

    Cleaning out Drain Pipe

I think I have a crushed pipe or a critter crawled up the line. I hate to start digging, when the run from the house to daylight is 700' and up to 12' deep. I'll probably rent a ditch witch and install a shallow and short, (100') run from the basement sump pump pit to the pond.
  20. J

    Cleaning out Drain Pipe

I wish you lived closer, I'd split one with you. My 30 year old footer drains plugged up this spring. They are plumbed to daylight 700' from the house, all I get is a trickle. This is the first time in 30 years I've had to run a sump pump.

    Leinbach ?'s and opinions

It's a heavy, well built rake. I loaned out my 7' Lienbach rake a few years ago to a neighbor. He lost a tine, I could not find a replacement, so I simply moved the outermost tine to the spot missing a tine. Fortunately a few weeks later the neighbor found the missing tine.

Min tractor size for repairing long gravel driveway with potholes?

I'm in the snow belt about an hour west of you, with a similar sized gravel driveway. I've made due with a Kubota L3710 for the past 23 years. It's a 37 hp tractor, with a HST transmission. I use a 6' box scraper, 8' york rake and 78" snowblower. You'll need 4wd if the rippers are lowered...

    clearing land

A foot of fill on 4 acres is 400 large dump truck loads.... You need at least a D6 dozer for a few weeks to strip 3 inches, spread a foot of material and then redistribute the top soil. Unless your pockets are deep, live with it for awhile and do a little at a time with your new equipment.

    Setting posts below frost

I'm in the same frost belt as you, for deck and porch stairs I simply pour a 4" slab at ground level. There's no need to excavate below the frost line for a stair footer. In 30+ years my slabs/stairs have not moved. If this was for a deck post, or any type of structural foundation, yes, 4'...

6" of Rain - Gravel Driveway Catastrophe

Around here, 6"+ in one day would be a once in 20-50 year event. The repairs look good. If that's your first wash out, I would not spent a lot of time adding more ditches. If it's a repeat event, contact the town to see what they can do for you, if the water is coming from their right of way...

    Well Water Filter

I use a 30 micron string filter, it gets changed every three months. At 5 microns I was changing the filter every 3-4 weeks. I have .5 micron at the fridge for ice and drinking water. If I went the 1 micron route I'd be lucky to last a couple of days.

I have a 72" brush hog box blade, very heavy, and I'm very happy with it. My tractor is an Kubota L3710, 37 horse power. I wouldn't get one smaller than your wheel width, and I certainly wouldn't get anything much bigger than what I have. With a full box of crusher run, or dirt, 4wd is a...

I have the WM-8M with about 100 hours on it in the past 4 years. 5" hickory will bog it down with 30 horses at the pto. That isn't really a problem, anything over 3" gets cut for firewood. The 5" run was a one time test. 6" poplar is not an issue.
