    Another grapple question

Thanks! Finally managed to get a full weekend of use out of it and everything is working fine now.

    Another grapple question

Solenoid is cutting off when I release the switch. I can hear it click. Could it be something else? What about the power beyond? Should I try reversing the 3rd function hoses?
  4. D

    Another grapple question

Would it happen if the power beyond hoses were reversed? Wr long shows it both ways in their instructions and I may have them backwards.

I’m guessing it’s the relief. I wouldn’t know for sure. How do I check?

Anyone know of better grill guard protection for an L Series?

Lown performance seems to make them. Pricey but they are really nice. I was super pleased with the kit I got for my mx.

    Another grapple question

Just got my grapple hooked up. When testing it, I noticed the hydraulic pump whines when the grapple is fully closed. If I bump it open a little, it goes away. I assume this is due to pressure from the grapple. 3rd function is wr long. Grapple is mtl rg-7. Is this normal? Do I need to make...

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

For reference I went with a woods 72.50. It was either that or an rc cutter that I’m afraid I’d tear up in the woods around my property. Would have rather gotten a 72.30 as the .50 is a bit heavy for my tractor, but the .30 wasn’t available.

    Mx5400 loader accessory plug

Oh, I see. I’m just trying to avoid splicing wires. I guess I just need to find the right land pride cable part number.

    Mx5400 loader accessory plug

This is an accessory plug according to the kubota manual. I can only assume it’s for a factory or land pride 3rd function. It’s only one side of the connector. The black round plugs are rubber and just there to keep the dust out. I’m not sure what you mean by it not doing me any good. My plan is...

    Mx5400 loader accessory plug

I’m in the process of installing a w r long 3rd function and would like to use the factory loader accessory plug for supplying power to the solenoid switch. Anyone know what kind of plug this is or where I can find one?

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Not titan attachments. Titan implements, just to clarify.

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Nice. Anyone have thoughts on the titan 1606?

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Thanks for all the feedback. To be clear, I don't plan to clear the woods with the cutter. It's just that I don't want something that'll get damaged from using it in heavy brush. After talking to my local dealers and what they have in stock, here are the models I'm considering: - Titan 1606 -...

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Thank you for all the feedback. My options right now given current inventory are a light duty 2" cutter or heavy duty 4" models. Given that I'll be clearing in the woods, I assumed going with a heavier duty couldn't hurt. I don't plan to cut 4 inch trees with it. :-)
  16. D

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

I’ll take what I can get right now due to inventory shortages. I’d like a 3” model but most places either have the lighter duty 2” or the 4” as their customers are either cutting pastures or doing roadside work.

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Lots of recommendations to cover the track width, so I'll focus on that. I'm considering a woods 72" with a 3 or 4 inch cutting capacity. Woods and bushhog are about all that's carried around here.

MX5400. What brush cutter size? 60" or 72"?

Trying to decide between a 60" or 72" brush cutter. Tractor: MX5400 4x4 w/ loader Cutter Brand: Woods (what my trusted dealer carriers) Intended cutter use: Cutting grass around a pond and along a dam bank which has an incline Clearing brush in lightly wooded areas (looking at 3" cutting...

    Boom bent?

Thank you all for the great feedback and suggestions. I think I've located the issue. Starting starting to wonder if I really caused this or if I just happened to notice it recently. For reference, the tractor is basically brand new. I'm paranoid by nature and just assumed I had done something...

    Boom bent?

Unfortunately, it's not the pin. I was hoping that was the case as well. I removed it and rolled it on a flat surface to check. The gusset was slightly bent, but I'm not sure if it's enough to cause that much deflection on the cylinder.
  21. D

    Boom bent?

No insurance. Had no idea this was even a thing until Friday when I first posted. God my dealer sucks… Anyways, tried a few things this weekend. The top right pin mount I bent a little but not enough to cause a major issue like this. I think it’s a combination of things. Weather didn’t...

    Boom bent?

    Correct.
  23. D

    Boom bent?

    Huh. Interesting
  24. D

    Boom bent?

Should I just run it as is? The rubbing on the link had me concerned that I might damage the cylinder if I left it as is.
  25. D

    Boom bent?

Nothing seems to bind but the link is rubbing and the cylinder doesn’t line up on the left. Cylinder needs some force to get it to slide into links for the ssqa. Havent tried taking the pin for the bucket cylinder out yet. Might try that next once the rain stops.
  26. D

    Boom bent?

More noob questions. I was clearing some of my property and caught the base of a tree on the left side. Didn’t think much of it but when inspecting the bucket today I came across an issue. I think the cylinder is straight. I checked with a straight edge. Links look ok also. How screwed am I...

    W.R. Long still recommended?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I didn’t realize how the solenoid worked and thought I’d have issues with it clamping the brush too hard. I think I’ll get the wr long kit.
  28. D

    W.R. Long still recommended?

Didn't think about engine rpm and bumping the switch. That clarifies a lot. Thanks!

    W.R. Long still recommended?

Thanks guys. Anyone know if there are any options on the market now that include feathering or flow control?

    5 Eleven DesignZ, LLC

I've found that I can get a custom grill from a local fabricator for less than pre-fab solutions. Only a minor inconvenience that I need to go take it to get powder coated myself. No issue with these guys but it's always a plus to me if I can support local businesses.
  31. D

    W.R. Long still recommended?

Looking to purchase a 3rd function soon. Is the w.r. long kit still the most recommended? I primarily need it for a grapple. The grapple will be used for clearing my properly. There's a ton of small brush (privet) that I need to clear as well as a fair bit of trees/logs. Are there any kits out...

    3 point bushing kit?

That’s what I plan to do next time I remove the blade. I picked up some more bushings the other day.
  33. D

    3 point bushing kit?

Ended up buying adapters from Tractor Supply. They aren't quite wide enough and they are too wide to double stack the ones adapters the tractor came with. I have no interest in a quick hitch and think the dealer sold me this box blade simply b/c it's what they had on the lot...

    3 point bushing kit?

I have a quick hitch compatible class 1 box blade and noticed that that the class 2 adapter bushing kit that came with my tractor isn’t wide enough. Can anyone suggest a kit that I can buy online to fix this either by doubling up the bushings or getting some wider ones?

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

In my defense, this all started when I couldn’t back out of a spot in the woods bc my wheels wouldn’t turn. Hence the concern.
  36. D

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Correct. I was misremembering the behavior when I posted. Either that or the issue is somehow heat related. I corrected this statement later in the thread.

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Thanks a ton. Seriously, that’s quite a bit of effort to go through just to provide me ease of mind. I’m leaning towards working as normal as well.

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Clicking was the bucket zerks. Mine won’t steer past maybe 1/3 of the way with a loaded bucket. Rpms don’t matter. I tried it a full rpms.

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Again, not defaming the dealer about anything. The context was me questioning myself (is this normal or am I paranoid given the other issues). For a little more context, I found out from the dealer that they have been having major issues with their service department recently. I know the...

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check the axle fluid as well. Agreed on other topics. This is my situation exactly. New owner. Had a large project this week and ended up buying kubota b/c I didn't want to be dealing with issues while trying to get the work done.

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

I noticed it when I couldn’t back up around a corner. It does it when moving at slow speeds as well and in the brush with no load. It's just easier to demonstrate with the tractor stopped.
  42. D

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Didn’t know about the bolts. I’ve set them back the way they came. Either way, my point with the back story was just to give context on why I’m paranoid. That’s all. I’m not lifting a full pallet of bricks. The mx wouldn’t event be able to tilt that much less lift it. I’m splitting pallets into...

Yeah. Don’t know what qualifies as maxing out unfortunately. That load is easily lifted if that helps.

I feel the same way. Is the tractor really not supposed to be able to turn to full lock with a loaded bucket?

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Thanks. I’ll call the dealer today. Sounds like there’s an issue. I have never felt anything resembling any sort of resistance while steering, yet it is very easy for me to find any number of situations where the front wheels don’t move when turning. It is very common and I assumed either the...
  52. D

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Correct. With the engine stopped, the steering wheel spins completely freely. There's some slight hesitation or notching almost like that feels sort of like a gear when it's stripped or a spline shaft that isn't engaging, but I mean the hesitation or "notching" feel is slight. I can spin it with...

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Thanks. We've already spoken about the other issues. They know I'm not super pleased with the way the tractor was delivered. There were other things too, unrelated to the tractor itself that I didn't mention, which we also spoke about. Regarding whether this is "normal" or not, that's really my...

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Do you know where in the operations manual it explains how the steering should operate? I looked all over and couldn't find anything explaining what you just stated. I found the issue which led me to checking out the zerks more closely while doing a test ride. The clicking was observed while...

After looking around some more, I’m guessing the steering runs off the same hydraulics as everything else. Did I break something already?
  59. D

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

Yeah. I think I’ll get a rotary cutter for now and go from there. Others have suggested pulling the big stuff up by the roots. I need a grapple anyways for other projects so maybe that’s the better investment for now if I’m going to add any hydraulic functions.
  60. D

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

Agreed. I hope to get some tomorrow. I’ve had a few issues with the tractor that have taken precedence for now unfortunately. I posted about them in the Kubota section.

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Yeah hst. Which fluid? I tried searching the manual and can’t figure it out? Checked the rear sight glass by the pto and it looks normal (very small bubble at the top).

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

Thank you for this. Is your tractor ballasted? My tires are filled. This is close to flail I was looking at. What size is it? Having second thoughts after seeing this review

Issues already? New mx5400 steering issue.

Ohh boy... this has been quite the experience thus far. I was quite happy to finally get a tractor and start putting it to use. Tried it out by moving a bit of dirt and notice a clicking noise. Checked and one of the grease fittings wasn’t greased. No problem. I added some. Then I noticed none...

  66. D

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

Yeah, I was looking at those, the weight savings would be nice. I'm just concerned about these stupid tree things. I want to destroy them permanently before they over take my favorite fishing spots and I'm not sure the sicklebar is up to the task at hand.
  67. D

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

That's what I thought. Any idea how well a flail does against sapling? Some of the ones I need to deal with are in the 2-3" range, I'd guess.

Saplings and brush around pond banks. Suggestions?

New tractor owner looking for some advice. I have an issue around my pond with some plant I can't recognize that likes to grow right on the water's edge. They can get quite large if left unchecked. I let them get a bit out of hand last summer and had to spend many hours with the chainsaw...
