My other tractors have a definite "float" ... you can feel it go to that float ... still struggling with "float" on this one.

On my ROPS tractor I just push up/forward and it "cams over" into float.
Might be different on a cab model. Do you have an owner's manual?

Now a punch for the Outback S2 Guidance system ... this unit will drive you straight or contour, set your swath width, calculate the acres, MPH and return to points ... for the money the best tractor guidance money can buy.

I got that transfered today as well ... also finished the coulters on my subsoiler.

Yes I have the owners manual ... have not consulted it yet ... I thought I was smart enough to figure out the float ...

Should the need ever arise, I have a parts and service manual as well. The Manhattan phone book is smaller than either one of them. Have never used either except to block up a lamp on the nightstand for a while. These tractors do not break.

Now that I recall, I think (maybe) that I saw a TV show about building these engines in Mexico in a state of the art facility. White gloves everywhere and computers did everything. I felt really good after watching that. I saw it somewhere.

Need updates on the loader brackets--that is definately worth doing.

If the need for the SM comes about I will contact you.

I decided to fab and build my own SSQA ... I kinda have it layed out and am making it hook up to the exsisting JD. hook and pins ... I'll let you know how it goes.

BTW neighbor that I bought the tractor from pulled up in his Kubota RTV ... climbed thru the fence and came to the shop. He commented that he feels he made a mistake and should not have sold the tractor ... I told him no problem I'll sell it back to you for a little profit ... he never asked how much and the tractor conversation kinda ended !!!!

Since I might build one as well, maybe post some photos, dimensions, etc?
Pictures are always nice.

Yes pictures are nice ... its kind of a think, cut, clamp, weld, recut, new braces ... I tryed the idea of a cross bar on the top like the picture .. NOT that darn top bar was in the way to hook up to a SSQA hay spear as well as my forks. So I'm thinking of moving the cross bar to the bottom or maybe not even using one ... just two that fit the hooks and pins. Would be nice to have it one unit.

I shoot from the hip ... re measure and re do. I'll snap some pictures in the morning and try to give a walk thru ... it is kinda frustrating But I am determined to get it.

Okay here's some pictures ... I still have some braces and more plates to add for strength. The concept is there and it seems it will work.

As for measurements its pretty forward as the width ... the backing plate is
4" to match the JD brackets. The pin for the bottom to go into the JD bottom hole is 1.25" round stock ... still need to drill holes for the lynch pin.

For the top angle of the SSQA I used 3/8 plate 2" on the top and 3/8 plate by 1.5" under that to get the SSQA angle. The very bottom is 3/8 by 3" for the bottom angle. For the top to the bottom of the SSQA angles it is 15.5" and the bottom is at a 30 degree angle. These set on 2x3x1/4 rectangular tube to bring it away from the flat plate.

I have some rolled 3/8 plate off an old cultivator that will fit over top of the round plate (on the JD top) to add strength and I will double the 4" down to the top of the top angle ... I am making the pins out of 1" round stock ... have to fiqure out the levers, hinge action and springs yet ... I'll get it. I'm trying to decide if I should tie both sides together with a 2x3x1/4 rectangular tube or just have the two seperate pieces.

Don't be too hard on me I'm still a rookie welder welder ... they aint pretty but dad gum it they hold!

Wow--that is impressive thinking and workmanship.
How will you "lock" the impement to the framework?

Well I don't know about impresive ... but I thank you!! The two units I built for each side will lock in with the JD hook and pin ... the SSQA ... I welded (this afternoon) a steel 4"piece of 1 1/4" pipe vertical and cut two 1" diameter pins about 7" long as the SSQA lock pins ... depending upon the lever action I may have to change the length ... I'm thinking that over in my mind with a lever and compression springs to raise and lower those pins on each side.... I post some pictures of the pins tomorrow.
