Im sure someone will buy them. But why is beyond me.

The "Why" factor comes into play for people that don't like to wade in the mud and take a chance on falling and hurting themselves or the cattle tromping over them, Older people that don't want to give up the cattle operation, people that are medically handicapped in someway like arthritis, heart trouble. etc. I would not have gave 10 cents for one until I reached my sixties. Time takes its toll on all of us in one way or another. Ken Sweet

You would be really surprised, as I have come to be over the years, to know how many farmers have no welders,torches,shops or ability to use them. That is one thing that drives our used equipment sales, we only ship used implements that are field ready. We run the implements through our shop so the end user does not have to worry about repairs upon arrival. Ken Sweet

All my hay feeders have the hay saver bottoms. There is a sheet of steel welded to the lower rings. Can't use this design.

Smart farmers know how to build (or have built) what they need when they can’t find something available that meets their need. They also know that if there’s something available that works for them, it’s easier, cheaper, and faster to buy that product rather than waste time reinventing the wheel. A real farmer understands that time is money, and they’re usually short on time. The “part timer” Wooddust mentions is the type of person that would build his own, not the type of person that would be interested in buying one. I suspect most people here fall in that category.

The rings all vary widely in configuration as well as material constructed of. We sell light duty, med duty, Heavy Duty and HD plastic rings. All different in construction. Ken Sweet

That makes more sense then. Hard to make one tractor mounted device to fit all the different ring configurations.

Most cattlemen in our area are feeding LRB'S by unrolling. We started unrolling bales back in the early 90's. Have to train cattle to eat it instead of tromping it. Feed them only what they will eat in a day. My brother said it would not work. After a few years of doing this on poor pasture land, he changed his mind. Ground has really improved fertility wise. Do not have the muddy hay feeding ares with small calves tromped into the mud, waste part of outer bale is spread out as well as the manure. No need for spreader. Does require feeding every day and you need a bale unroller.

Also a added benefit, we get new seeds from the hay worked in by the cattle during the winter and ready for germination in the spring. Unrolling also lets the calves get into the feed as well. Looks like a great idea. My only concern is the placement on that type of ring. It creates a smaller space for cattle to get their head stuck. After working on the family dairy farm for 25 years (sold herd in 1998) I've seen too many heads stuck in places you didn't think possible. If the head area was straight bars I think it would be better. Again, nice idea. I'm for anything that makes life easier.
