I will also add that everyone has different opinions and different ways of dealing with situations. These 3 men were there and know the circumstances better than any of us so we (myself included) really shouldn't even be speculating on how this should have been handled. We only know what the media has told us.

I can't boycott Autozone because I never shop there anyway. I always go to the NAPA store. Not only do they have quality parts for a fair price, but they will make up a blown hydraulic hose on the spot. If you are rural and own farm equipment, NAPA and your tractor dealer are the only two parts houses in the world.

Agreed. Everyone went home safe. If this had not been a former trained professional, then there could have been tragic results. Military personal are NOT trained to put their fellow comrades at risk. Did he really break company policy or the way the company interprets it's policy. Officially the store was closed so the article said. We he walked out that door AUTOZONE RELINGISHES liability just as any business does. When he stepped thru that doors threshold, he became John Q Public. When he and his fellow worker where pushed back in he was still John Q Public. The acting manager is paid to do deposits after hours, but not Mr. McLean. They where leaving. I think we haven't heard the last of this.

What usually happens in these cases is some other business in the area will offer him a job. I hope it works out for him. When one door closes, another opens, as they say.

He would probably fit right in at the local Napa around here. Most of the guys there at our local ones are volunteer firefighters and are probably carrying.

I think we can argue the should/shouldn't argument until we are blue in the face and not come to resolution. The known facts are that Mr. McLean got his weapon and the armed robber took off running. He brought the situation to a resolution in a very quick manner. That's what happened, right or wrong. Then, because of corporate policy, Autozone fired him. I think we are almost 100% unanimous in saying we disagree with this action. If they had given him a punitive week or two weeks off, I would not be happy with them, but not nearly as upset as I am for termination with no recourse. I hope somebody in the corporation with power has enough sense to overturn some HR automatron's knee-jerk reaction.
