I have a 6 HP Yanmar diesel air cooled generator, starts first pull every time and runs a long time on very little diesel. It gets toted around the farm whenever I need remote electricity. I have a 13 HP gas on the house but I have not had the power go out since I bought it. The diesel is just too noisy to run near the house.

The 6 HP diesel pulls harder than the 13 HP gas, but you only have to pull the diesel once.
Tom,
So true. My diesel seems to have a pull recoil rope that is 10 feet long. One long, hard pull and it is running. When running for house power, I put it behind the barn and power the barn circuit to the house. It is way more noise than I like. But I can fall asleep to it's sound. It sounds like it is fixin' to fly apart.
Does your 6hp diesel have compression release?
hugs, Brandi

Yes, my 6 HP Yanmar air cooled diesel has a compression release. However, the pull cord is no longer than a normal lawnmower. With your 10 HP diesel, I bet you would need a long pull cord and big spool. I have to keep my left foot on the base of the generator or I lift it up when pulling. Your 10 HP must have an electric start as well?

How does someone pull a 10' pull cord? I assume not retractable? Hitch it to the tractor and drive away?

Finished a list of jobs that required the telehandler as I may have it sold. I put an additional two foot section on the chimney and then put a brace kit on. Then put in some extra screws for the fascia boards. Caulked around the Ridge Pole, installed some bird spikes and installed LED flood lights, front and rear.

Tom,
Key word in that sentence is "seems". The recoil rope is about 6 foot. A long pull compared to a gas engine, for sure. It has provisions for electric starter, but I haven't bought one. I messed up once and held onto the rope after starting..........bad jeu jeu happens. The compression release is a must to start it, or you get pulled over the generator.

Mr. Bo,
When you put a porch on, are you going to make it a covered porch?

I was going to say there would be a career for you in professional volleyball or basketball if you could pull a 10' cord. :D

I would consider my Yanmar 6 HP air cooled diesel engine the best air cooled engine I have. And I have many small engines.

Bo, will you eventually trim back the logs that extend beyond the drip line of the roof? It seems like it would be better to not have melting snow or rain dripping on those logs which then might feed moisture back into the structure.

Looking good.

Yes, that is one more Telehandler job. I marked them last weekend but didn't have time to trim them.
