No, maybe my earlier joke about segregating JD from Kubota on these lists has some merit since not even on the Kubota list are we allowed to "like" our Kubota tractors. This is exactly why some of us really are becoming very anti JD.
Kubota is the leader in the compact tractor segment--maybe my definition is different but between the B7400, BX1800, BX2200, BX22TLB, B7500, B2410, B2710, B2910----, L3010, L3410, L3710, L4310, L4610 Kubota markets 13 different models and I have left out the B21TLB and what the 30TLB or am I getting lost here--I know there are more but forget the designations. JD offers only 6 tractors that covers this range more narrowly. The JD4200 should be compared to the L3410/3710 and the JD 4600 should compare to the L4610--not the Kubota BX or B2410. JD compares the 4100 to the BX at it's site rather than the 2410 which is the better comparison based on weight, wheelbase and similar size etc. JD likes to do that---comparing smaller competitor units to their's. The 2410 squeeks it over the 4100 (which I am certain I have said I like a 100 times now--is a very nice unit to be proud of). The 2410's legendary toughness and durability are only icing on the cake.
B2410HST, 24 horses from 69 cubes, weight 1477, wheelbase 59 inches, total hydrulaic flow is 7.0 GPM, 3-point lift is 1356lbs at lift point and 1058 24 inches behind, FEL is 925 lbs at lift pin and I like the damm seat better and prefer the control layout and fit and finish is superior.
JD4100, 21 horses from 61 cubes, weight is 1565 lbs, wheel base is 59 inches, total hydrualic flow is 5.1 GPM on the hydro model, 3-point lift is 930 at 24 inches behind, FEL is 882 lbs at the pin.
The 2410 wins!!!!!!nah nah na nana nah na!!!!!!
Hey, can we just drop this whole thing--for my contribution to the sordid affair--just shoot me in the rear end and I still don't like the dang yellow seat!!!!!!

That's not the way I've been reading this thread, JR. I've seen a number of opinions, beliefs and preferences, including my own, but I don't get the feeling there is a lot of anti sentiment here. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

There has always been a fair amount of good-natured ribbing amongst the different color factions on this board, and I find that both healthy and informative. There have been times where the ribbing was perhaps taken too seriously, but it seldom escalates into any real bashing. This particular thread might be the exception, but since the main participants here are among the most respected on the board, I think there has simply been some misinterpretation of the points being made. I even suspect your own tongue has been firmly planted in your cheek in your last few messages. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

What I have gotten out of this thread is some interesting "facts" and statistics, many of which are not necessarily substantiated, but still make for some good cracker barrel bantering. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

can we just drop this whole thing

Might be the best suggestion yet, so's we can all get back to the camaraderie that TBN is famous for. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Tres,
I think you're missing the point. Not one person has said a bad word about kubota. Not a person is saying kubota or their company is bad. It's been said several times by John Deere owners that Kubota is also a fine product. There's no need to defend Kubota, noone is bad mouthing them! It's JD that's getting bad mouthed. That post was all Glenn's words not mine. But you're probably right let's just go ahead and drop it.

Besides, the way I understand the grand scheme of things...

Jinma and the other Chinese tractors will take over all market share, so no more arguing... /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

{But, I found some "pie charts" and when I get home later tonight, I'll try to post US market share... and hint...hint...JD wasn't the the biggest piece of pie...}(keep ya all in suspense for a time...)

Speaking of that did you hear that they expect Chinese to replace English as the most used language by 2020? I was reading USA Today on the plane and they had that stat.

Excellent point Harv, but conspicuous by absence on this, and similar threads, THE most respected member of this board, is among the missing. Is this by pure chance? Or perhaps a reason why he has attained such status?

Speaking of that, has anyone else noticed an increase in the quality of tools at Harbor freight. I mean I am not going to replace my Snapon stuff (purchased at a deep discount through my school) or Craftsman but really I thought during a cursory glance that I see improvements. They also had recently some million candle power rechargeable spot lights--very bright for 9.97 dollars.
Yep, the Chinese apparently intend to conquer us by dominating our Tractor market with pretend like Kubotas all with a chip in them (which JD will also Purchase for their new Robby Robot Lineup) and at the stroke of midnight they will all cease to run--the calamity--will distract us and --well a billion of them will swim over and we will all be wearing little gray suits.
JD is best--so let's move on--has anyone used one of those cheapo rear blades from TSC? Thought it might be easy to mod one for snow removal by welding on some skid shoes.

...quality of tools at Harbor freight...all with a chip in them...

Hey, hey... I just bought a 24" measuring wheel for $19.95 freight prepaid from Harbor Freight and was shocked... it actually works great like a landscapers $59. unit.

I'm a Craftsmen guy, my wallet seems to like them, however I do have a number of Snap-on, one of my buddies gives me as gifts {trying to switch me over...}.

Back in the 60's, when the CB radio craze was hot and heavy {internet.? what?}, the little joke was the Japanese making all the CB's were implanting "miniature atomic chips" that would all go off someday...

Today, we have the computer craze... and probably upwards of 80% of all computer components are made in Taiwan(China)...Hum? What does that tell us... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

My goodness - I've only been looking at TBN on occasion recently and couldn't believe this thread grew into such a monster.

To add my $0.02 ... while I love my BX (it's a personal thing), I am glad that I bought one of the later models. I didn't get the hassle of the 3pt hitch redesign, the fuel tank leak, the pedal zirk - which are now all fixed of course. It's a great little tractor for my uses.

I have to think that the new X series will have its share of glitches too. If you're a dyed in the wool JD fanatic then I guess you'll go for the X series. If you want a tractor with the bugs worked out then try the BX.

I guess in many ways it's like comparing a Toyota Corolla to a Honda Civic (or even a Ford Focus). It's really not worth sweating the difference too much. I'd rather have the one with the kinks out of the system (didn't the JD 4x00 have problems when they were introduced too??)

Always amazed that tractors arouse such passion! Let's compare notes when we actually have some brave souls that have used the X series for a while.

Patrick

P.S. Still waiting for snow in SE PA - with my wife commenting on how much value we are getting out of the tractor this winter. I think she's angling for a bigger Christmas present.
